Army on the Street .............. NO!!!

Despite the fact that he died around 620 BC, Draco the Lawgiver must be spinning with excitement in his grave.

We have witnessed some horrific scenes over the last few days. Acts of violence and theft committed by pure scum. There is no nobility in their actions. There is no honour. There was no need for this scandalous criminality.

I doubt that I can add any more words to a story that will play out over the next days, weeks and months.

What I would like to do though, is ask normally level-headed people to chill out. If I had a quid for every time I saw words like this, I would be a wealthy man:

"Send the army in!"

"Shoot them all!"

"Bring back hanging!"

And so on and so forth.

We pay billions of £££'s every year to ensure that police officers have the very best protective equipment, and that they receive the very best training for exactly this kind of civil disturbance. On this very blog we have looked at the police, live and in full colour, beating the bejesus out of protesters. Last night though, instead of kettling and righteous clubbing from the cops, I saw this:

I saw it time after time after time.

These boys in blue were happy to kettle young students, anti-war protesters, and other "soft" groups. But when it came to violent thugs, they stood by, claiming that "there are not enough of us". (Bear that in mind for what comes later.)

Send the army in? It is a very tiny mind that comes to that conclusion. The police have not yet fully deployed and they have not yet exhausted all methods of crowd control at their disposal. CS gas has not been used. Snatch Teams (to my knowledge) have not been used. Tasers have not been used. For legal reasons water cannon can not be used. So it is far too early to even think about deploying troops. Besides which, it is not their job. They should never be asked to control riots. Never. If you want to see how badly it can go wrong when squaddies are deployed, look south to Tunisia and Libya, look east to Syria and Bahrain. It goes pear-shaped very, very quickly. I am stunned that some empty-heads were screeching for martial law. FFS!

Enough of this. I'm reasonably sure you have read similar elsewhere.

I think we learnt at least two lessons from all this:

1. We are about to lose some liberties.
2. It doesn't take much to take over the streets.

That thin blue line is anorexic. My timing may well be all the way off, but the last few days have demonstrated much better than my words ever have that we are many and they are few. Imagine, if you can, just 500 people in every town and major city demanding full restoration of those rights which the government willingly (and unlawfully) gave away to Europe? Peaceful action by a significant number of people would ensure a complete takeover of the country in a matter of hours or days. Remember this the next time you try to convince yourself that we cannot bring about change if we were determined to.

Just in case you conclude that I am having a pop at the cops: I am not. I actually think they should have gone in hard, faster. With violent thieves, and they are no more or less than that, a spanking is all they understand. A solid teak baton around the napper would have stopped dozens of them cold. And when their cohorts see the claret fly, it concentrates the mind. This is probably the first and last time you will see me condone tough action from the police. The rioters broke my only law: do no harm. I would expect exactly the same harsh treatment if it was me doing the violence and the thieving.

We have been rewarding our thugs for 20 years. Warm, comfy cells, complete with PS3's, laptops and High Def tellies. When they are released, after serving a fraction of their sentence, we send them on their way with a hug. I believe, firmly, that most of this was Labour's doing. I just hope someone tells them that, repeatedly.

No martial law, no troops on the streets, no hanging. Got that?

I refuse to hand over any more of my liberties because a couple of hundred light-fingered bastards couldn't control themselves.

Punish those half-wits by all means.

But leave me the fuck alone.

You already stole too many of my rights. I want them back.

Stolen without shame and with a hat tip to the Capt here!!

Lord Taylor of Warwick............JAILED !

Former Tory peer Lord Taylor of Warwick has been jailed for 12 months for fiddling his expenses.

The 58-year-old had argued the six claims he had submitted - totalling £11,277.80 - were made in good faith.

He previously admitted breaking the expenses rules, but argued he had done so because it was a common practice among peers to claim items "in lieu of a salary".

And the ice on the cake with this 1 ............... he is a former Barrister !!!!

Oh how sweet !!!

Ok Baby same rules for you ................... lube up time !!

Laurence MacKenzie...............Former Head of NI Water

Asks more questions than it answers me thinks ????

Source

Ousted Northern Ireland Water boss Laurence MacKenzie is a convicted embezzler, it has been revealed.
He swindled his church in the Scottish Highlands out of £2,000 almost 30 years ago.

MacKenzie, 49, lost his £250,000-a-year job as head of the state-owned water company in the aftermath of the leaks fiasco which left tens of thousands of homes in Northern Ireland without water over Christmas and the New Year.

He stole the money from West Kirk church in Thurso, Caithness, while he was working for the Bank of Scotland as a junior teller.

A spokesman for the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh said: "We can confirm that, following an investigation, Mr MacKenzie was convicted and removed from his post as treasurer in 1982."

He was convicted of embezzling £2,000 by a court. He was not sent to prison.

MacKenzie became chief executive of Northern Ireland Water (NIW) in June 2009 after several years heading Northern Ireland Electricity.

A spokesman for NIW said: "We are making no comment."

Your Going to Court You Thieving Bastards

The Supreme Court has found against the three ex Labour MPs who appealed a court of appeal decision that they should face the criminal courts over allegedly fiddling their expenses. The former MPs, Jim Devine, David Chaytor and Elliott Morley, had argued that their case should be dealt with by Parliament.

I don't think the Supreme Court verdict should come as a surprise to anyone. Just think of the outrage there would have been if the decision had gone the other way.

About time...............about bloody time.........can't wait !!!!!

Another Piggy in the Dock

Eric Illsley faces three charges under section 17 of the Theft Act 1968 for alleged false accounting, relating to three years of expenses claimed on his second home in London.

Source

He is the fifth politician to face criminal charges after the expenses scandal last year.

It is alleged he dishonestly claimed expenses for council tax, service/maintenance, repairs/insurance, utilities and communications at his second home in Kennington, south London, between May 2005 and April 2008.

He gave a not guilty plea indication at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Senior district judge Timothy Workman granted Mr Illsley unconditional bail and committed his case to Southwark Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on July 22.

We still await the trials of former Labour MPs David Chaytor, Elliot Morley, and Jim Devine, and Tory peer Lord Hanningfield, also known as Paul White, who are accused of theft by false accounting.

Personally that Tory Turd Liam Fox should be with them.

Go to jail and do not collect £200.00 as you have been doing that too many times before..............but you might need some lube.

Infact did the "You've been Cromwelled" site not do a "Lube for a Lag" thing.

Must go check.

Liam Fox

My hatered for Liam Fox is well known.

I blogged about his theft before................I blogged about the blatant further insults that the Tories heap on our Military with his appointment.

Go over to Munguins blog.

And read this post here.

A great post and right on the money.

Slimy smarmy bastard................never liked East Kilbride anyway.

But please please please can someone out there help me understand how???

I mean earnings against expense, rules for claiming etc. Its bad enough them trying to get parliamentary privilege.

I am struggling to maintain my relaxed persona here on this subject.

This is an insult beyond comprehension...............so please and legal readers out there can you shed some light on this???

When is an FOI request.........Not an FOI request

When its linked to MP's Expenses of course.

Now the rules on FOI requests are fairly specific however once you announce a General election you can pretty much re-write the rule book.

This morning see here we discover that yesterday details of MPs’ unpaid bar and restaurant bills will be withheld until after the election.

REALLY...........you mean they want more of their theft kept secret.

Hundreds of MPs owe thousands of pounds for food and drink consumed in bars and restaurants around the Palace of Westminster.

Following a request under the Freedom of Information Act last September, the parliamentary authorities have been obliged for some time to release details of the unpaid bills.

However, they have now said that the information will not be released before the Commons reconvenes after the May 6 election.

That will leave voters in the dark about the outstanding debts of MPs standing for re-election, while retiring MPs will leave without facing public scrutiny of their bills

So in what has been described as the worst parliament in history............or "the rotten parliament" we see a further abuse of the system and a further attempt to hide the truth from the voters.

See further info here.

So many will say it a bar bill not a abuse of a system. Well dear readers it is an abuse. If you read the above link you will see the bar is subsidised by you and me. Our tax payers cash..............so it is an abuse.

And should you be the voter who puts back a thief into Westminster because this info was kept out of the public domain..................bet you feel proud don't you !!!

MP's Still Stealing

MP's are just the wost. The lowest of the low.
Being an MP is just an excuse to act in a deplorable manner and basically authorised theft from the public.

Its getting worse.

We now have the cant pay my subsidised drinks and food bill scandal.

Scores are expected to be identified as having failed to settle their Commons restaurant tabs for more than three months. Some of the bills run to thousands of pounds.

However, many more MPs whose bills have been outstanding for less than 90 days will not be named, on the grounds that they have not breached the grace period for settling accounts.

The move follows a Freedom of Information Act request by the Press Association which sparked six months of wrangling between Commons officials, MPs and lawyers over how to respond.

MPs objected and demanded further legal advice after being told last autumn that the details of their unpaid bills were set to be published.

The Commons has now decided that it will only release the names of the MPs who have owed money for more than 90 days.

Bob Castle, head of information rights, said the House had decided that ''disclosure of individual indebtedness'' would breach the Data Protection Act where MPs were ''operating within the letter and spirit of the system of personal accounts''.

However, it has been concluded that this balance changes at the end of the 90 day period following on from the recording of the debt,'' he added, in a formal response.

The timing of the release is still unclear, the Commons saying it needs yet to consult the MPs it intends to name.

Last August, 329 MPs owed a total of £138,046 on their refreshment department accounts - an average of £419 each.

They included 77 MPs who have failed to settle £45,150-worth of tabs averaging more than £500 each for more than six months.

Food and drink in the Commons is already subsidised by the taxpayer to the tune of £6.1 million a year, roughly half the catering budget.

The forthcoming release will include the names of MPs and amounts owed on September 1, 2009, for more than 90 days.

Source

So just to remind you....

We the taxpayer..... subsidise that bunch already to over £6 Million quid a year for food and drinks inside Westminster.
They get £400.00 per month allowance already for without having to submit a receipt for food.

And they still cant pay up on time.

Its also the fact it took them 6 bloody months of forward and backwards arguing to come to an agreement on what to do.

Any other comapny would have that paid immediately back to them.

However all memebers of the political class feel they are an elitist group to whom normal rules no longer apply.

Freeloading bastards !!!!

More Piggies at the Trough

You just cant make up the blatant "its within the rules" snout nosed troughing can you.

A Labour baroness has received £150,000 in expenses by renting a country cottage from a Conservative colleague in the Lords and saying it was her main home.

For seven years Baroness Whitaker, a former civil servant, rented the property which is on a driveway leading to Lord Renton’s mansion in the Sussex Downs.

Renton, the former Tory chief whip, only occasionally claims overnight expenses when he has to live in London to attend the House of Lords.

Whitaker has been claiming more than £20,000 a year even though she owns — rather than rents — a £1.5m property in an area of north London where she has lived since the 1960s.

Lords can claim an allowance of £174 per night which is intended to help them meet the cost of accommodation in London if they live outside the capital.

Whitaker insists that her expenses claims were made properly as she had moved out of London to live in the country after her husband retired.

She is a 73-year-old former magistrate who worked for the Health and Safety Executive and was vice-chairwoman of the Independent Television Commission.

When she became a life peer in 1999 she used her home town of Beeston in Nottinghamshire in her title.

She said at the time: “Although I live in London now, I still have an affinity with Nottinghamshire. That’s why I chose to be Baroness Whitaker of Beeston rather than Hampstead.” She and her husband have lived in their flat in north London since 1998. They own two floors in a spacious terraced house. A flat next door sold for £1.7m in July this year.

However, when the Lords first published details of expenses, Whitaker said her main home was in “East Sussex”.

After initially renting a property on the Firle estate near Lewes, which Whitaker designated as her main home, they were offered the use of a three-bedroom cottage owned by Renton. Whitaker’s husband Ben, a former Labour MP, had been a friend of Renton since childhood and they moved in.

They used the cottage, while also living in London, for seven years before switching to another property in Sussex this year. Whitaker had claimed £150,000 in overnight expenses while saying Renton’s cottage was her main home and had claimed another £20,000 while previously renting Firle Tower and the new property.

During this time she and her husband gave their London address to Companies House for their directorships. Company law states that directors must give their “usual” address.

Renton said on Friday he had charged the Whitakers a “fair rent” but would not say how much they paid.

Yesterday Whitaker said she had sold her family home in London and bought the flat nearby when she and her husband were retiring and wished to move to the country.

She wrote: “I use the London flat to attend sittings in the House of Lords, which often go on late into the night, and I spend the rest of the time in Sussex, where my husband lives for most of the week.”

She said she had been on the electoral register in East Sussex since 2000 and was an active member of the local Labour party: “Our home has been in East Sussex for 10 years.”

But you just know nothing will be done...............NOTHING.

And the thefts will keep on coming.
What has to happen before the body politic in this country actually sit up and think.........err not a good idea.

I mean the rank hypocrasy.............Bercow another fucking example.
£45K on a grace and favour apartment.
Kiddy friendly.

I mean who in the name of bloody sanity with 3 wee tots of kids who in their right mind spend £7K on a chuffing sofa.
But if its not your money..........spend what you like!!!!!!!

But being honest I suppose its like comfort eating.
I mean comfort spending.
To take away the pain from realising just how ridiculous the short arse looks next to his wife.

MP's Expenses............I dont believe this.

Did anyone see this go through the house yesterday????

I only got to see it late last night and I felt a wee Edradour was needed to take the edge off the sting I felt.

I quote below:-

"Shortly before MPs rose for their 82-day summer break, a rule change was slipped through allowing them to claim a new subsistence allowance without any proof of expenditure. The £25 a night payment means that MPs could, in theory, claim up to £9,000 a year without submitting a receipt of any kind – and it is payable on top of the £15,000 a year they are now allowed to claim for the mortgage or rental
of a second home."

DO WHAT???

Since the Telegraph broke the expenses story several months ago we have heard it all from the parties.
Rule changes!!
Restore public confidence!!
British Political wake up call!!

John Brecow the new speaker would lead from the front and what do we find out. He bloody rubber stamped it.

Every party has insisted that honesty and transparency is essential if MPs are to regain the trust and respect of voters. So what happens? A rule change is sneaked out with no publicity allowing MPs to claim even more money without showing they have incurred any expense.

This episode suggests not just that MPs still fail to appreciate the level of public disgust at their behaviour, but that they simply do not care. While they should be bending over backwards to restore their standing, they are offering the public a brazen two-fingered salute.

One last ride on the gravy train anyone before it finally comes off the tracks?!?!?!
