Its been an odd year has it not?
We have seen and heard from both ends of the scale.
Bravery, courgae, generosity..........to theft lies deception and just plain stupidity.
Most of it out or Westminster.

TLOTF has been quiet on the blog front I know.
I will correct that in 2012.

Suffice to say 2011 has been a bit of a stinky 1 for me.

Don't get me wrong not all stinky but indeed it has thrown a few serious curve balls which needed dealt with.

I am not 1 for thinking just because the clock strikes midnight that all will become better tonight. No not at all.

However I do believe despite what this year has hurled at me, that positive thought and good planning are a must. So I will use the midnight chimes to put a marker down for 2012.

So to all my friends out there a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2012.

But lets be honest and lets keep some focus.
The government will still lie.
Taxes will still rise
We will all still be skint
Labour are still shit and are just the depths of anything political.

Scotlands Hurricane!

URGENT – HURRICANE BAWBAG APPEAL On December 8th 2011, a hurricane of biblical strength blasted across North and Central Scotland.

Victims can be seen wandering aimlessly muttering: "Ah wiz pure shittin' masel big man so a wiz, ah need some jellies".

The hurricane decimated the area, causing approximately £30 worth of damage.
Untold disruption and distress was caused:

Many were woken well before...... their giro arrived. * Several priceless collections of mementos from the Balearics and Spanish costas were damaged. * Three areas of historic and scientifically significant litter were disturbed. * The cone fell off the head of the statue outside Glasgow’s Modern Art Gallery. * Thousands are confused and bewildered, trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting has happened in Scotland.

One resident, Pocahontis McGlinchy, a 17 year old mother-of-three said "Ah wiz like ‘Whit’s that? Ah,canny hear ma choonz innat man’ Wee Beyonce came running into my bedroom pure howlin so she wiz. My youngest two, Brooklyn an Blackpool slept through it. I was still pure rattlin when I was watching Jeremy Kyle the next morning."

Apparently though, looting did carry on as normal.

The British Red Cross have so far managed to ship 4000 crates of Buckfast to the area to help the stricken masses. Rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings including benefit books and jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos.

The Speaker of the House of Commons also revealed his new official portrait by British artist Brendan Kelly, depicting him rising from his Speaker's chair and motioning towards the Government benches.

The total bill to the taxpayer is £37,000, prompting criticism from value for money campaigners, who said it was “very excessive at a time of public sector austerity” and only aimed at “boosting John Bercow’s ego”.

Mr Bercow’s official coat of arms sits in the frame of his portrait. It is dominated by a ladder, four roundels and two curved ‘seax’ knives.

The ladder represents Mr Bercow’s ascent from humble beginnings, as the son of a taxi driver in north London. He went to a comprehensive, before entering Parliament as MP for Buckingham and becoming Speaker in 2009.

The roundels mark Mr Bercow’s fondness for tennis – he is a qualified lawn tennis coach – and also represent his role as ex officio chairman of the Boundaries Commission of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The seax knives, which were traditionally worn by Saxon warriers over 1,000 years ago, represent Mr Bercow’s attachment to Essex.

He went to university in the county, graduating in 1985 with a first class degree in Government.

The rainbow colours and pink triangles mark Mr Bercow's championing of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans-sexual people. They sit between his motto: “All Are Equal”.

The red and blue colours, as well as the gold colour of the roundels, represent the three main parties in the House of Commons.

The coat of arms sits in the frame of the Speaker’s official portrait, which features him rising from the Speaker’s chair in the House of Commons.

In the portrait he is making a hushing motion to the Government benches in the Commons,while holding a Commons order paper, and wearing his gown, rather than the traditional Speaker’s robes and tights.

Last night his office said that the painting cost £22,000, along with another £15,000 for the frame and coat of arms “to keep the style of previous portraits”.

The portrait will hang alongside other recent Speaker portraits including those of Baroness Boothroyd and Lord Martin of Springburn in his apartment.

Mr Kelly said he had wanted “to capture the day to day reality of a Speaker mid-action at work in the Chamber”.

However the TaxPayers’ Alliance, which highlights waste in pubic spending, criticised the cost of the painting and coat of arms.

Mathew Sinclair, the alliance’s director, said: “It’s very excessive at this time of public sector austerity for the Speaker to spend tens of thousands of pounds on a vanity portrait of himself.

“Following the MPs’ expenses scandal, Parliament should be cutting costs, not throwing taxpayers’ money away boosting John Bercow’s ego.

“Michael Martin was thrown from the job for wasting taxpayers’ money, so the current Speaker should be much more careful with how he spends our hard earned cash.”

A spokesman for the Speaker said: "The artist's fee is agreed through careful negotiation, balancing the prices artists can command for their work against strict value for money considerations.

"The portrait and the coat of arms form part of the Parliamentary Art Collection. This is a national collection which illustrates the history of Parliament and British politics over the century. The portrait remains the property of Parliament."

Now here's the rub and the bit you wont like. 99% of the people who vote in the country are bloody clueless. You are apathetic cretins who deserve what you get. I have long said you only get the politicians you deserve and well what you have is a bunch of self serving idiots who lie to you daily about serving there constituents, listening to the voters etc etc etc and when it comes to the crunch, when it means they have to actually put their balls on the block, they capitulate to the whips.

They would rather save their sorry skins than actually do what they said they would do when they so vigorously fought for your votes.

And British politics ............. oh how very democratic !!! How it is held as the beacon of all things fair and equal in the eyes of the world. How it is in itself a lie and a joke.

When the party whip is in place meaning no matter what is said by the public, the party can force its "Honourable Members" (don't make me sick) to vote as the party decides.

When a petition enacted by the current government to ask for public opinion is so disgracefully forgotten and disregarded, it clearly shows it was a cheap election ploy, (somewhat similar to the SNP call for an Independent Scotland but that's for another post),and basically a vote winner.

So its official. Mark the date in you diaries. 24th October 2011 ........... the day the UK showed it was not democratic !!!

How can 646 people hold 65 million to ransom like this. British public you are a disgrace to yourselves.

But 1 man off principle does stand out ............ Conservative MP Adam Holloway resigned his unpaid Government job as a parliamentary private secretary (PPS) in order to be able to vote for a referendum.

"If you can't support a particular policy, then the honest course of action is to stand down," he said.

"I want decisions to be made more closely by the people they affect, by local communities, not upwards towards Brussels.

"I'm not now prepared to go back on my words to my constituents."

In Westminster there are increasing rumours about why the Sergeant-At-Arms, Jill Pay, has announced her intention to retire. Its hard to say what took place behind the scenes but the departure does bring to a close a disastrous chapter in Parliamentary History.

I suppose that Jill Pay had it hard from the outset, she was the first woman Sergeant and one of the only holders of the post to have not been in the military. She always found it difficult to shake off her 'token gesture' image. But during the Damian Green Affair she showed herself up to be a weak figure struggling to understand her own role.

Just for the record its worth reminding ourselves what happened to Damian Green. Gordon Brown was becoming exacerbated by the number of leaks from the Home Office and demanded the Police take action. As part of this action the Police searched Damian Greens office and arrested him.

There was no doubt that this violated an ancient tradition dating back to Charles I and also an annual pledge made by the Monarch on the day of the State Open of Parliament.

The Police themselves were nervous about violating the Palace of Westminster and sought permission from the Speaker (Michael Martin) and the Sergeant: both agreed to the raid.

In times gone by both the Speaker and the Sergeant would probably have lost their heads for being complicit in such a denigration of Parliament. Today we can do little except lament the way that a once great institution was employing as its Head of Security a person who wasn't entirely familiar with the British Constitution or indeed her own role in it. But Jill Pay is a symbol of a much wider rot at the heart of our political system.

A once great institution in Westminster had descended into little more than a club house for desperate talentless freeloaders. Who cared more about their next expenses cheque than they ever did about their constituents.

At the same time we are faced by an increasingly powerful executive whose disregard for Parliament was such that they dared to demand the arrest of an MP. Jill Pays mistakes are widely documented - security checks that stifle the good running of Parliament yet cannot even prevent an amateur smuggling a custard pie into the Murdoch meeting - but lets not forget that all of us have been guilty of denigrating Parliament.

For anyone who laughed at the failures, ignored the expenses or put political correctness before security and constitutionality, let Jill Pay be a symbol of our failure. And her replacement a symbol of a new start.

We cannot continue to have a country with a strong executive and no legislature.

Tomorrow, Saturday 8th October sees the now famous Superleague Grand Final. The pinacle of the 13 a side code.

But there is a twist as a season dominated by Warrington and Wigan ends in familiar fashion.

Old rivals and multiple Grand Final winners St Helens and Leeds will meet at Old Trafford to decide who takes the year's top prize, having come through the play-offs from the unprecedented lows of third and fifth place in the table.

This will be the first Grand Final not involving either of the teams finishing first and second in the regular season, yet it reunites the two most successful clubs in the Super League era. What does that say about the competition? And why have the year's two outstanding clubs failed to reach the ultimate showcase?

The Grand Final as a one-off event is unrivalled in terms of theatre. Having an entire season decided over 80 minutes may not be seen as fair, but it creates an atmosphere I have never experienced elsewhere in sport.

An match bursting with expectation, adrenalin and fear prduce an unmissable spectacle.

Should we be surprised therefore that the two clubs to have proved their ability to perform on the biggest stage are again there at the death? Leeds and St Helens, with four Grand Final wins apiece, have experience, bottle and ability to perform under the most extreme pressure.

I am a proper grade A hardcore Leeds fan. Despite being a Scot I spent my formative years in Leeds watching the greats of many a year ago however my joy at seeing Leeds make this grand final is tempered with an acknowledgement that seeing both Warrington and Wigan fall away was most unexpected.

I have blogged many many times on the odious individual that is Dr Liam Fox, Secretary of State for Defence.

He replaced the equally odious and certainly hellishly ineffective Bob Ainsworth.

I thought when the new government took over that the military and indeed all things defence wise would have a higher priority and would return as a priority.

However please see here.

Instead I was VERY VERY wrong in that assumption.

The military and all things defence are further undervalued indeed even mocked by our current administration.

The sheer lies they tell with regards to all things military is just beyond even my simple brain ........ see here.

It appears the best-man of the Defence Secretary, a certain Mr Adam Werritty was swanning around Westminster with House of Commons business cards that said he was Fox’s “personal adviser”. Fox previously denied he was involved in any MOD activity, yet now it emerges his former flatmate came on an official MOD trip to Sri Lanka.

And now the slimy shit Fox has gone a triggered the investigation himself try to use the cunning and well known about trick of " It was not me guv, it was like the other bloke" ........... when actually the whole thing stinks!!!!!!!!!!

You would have thought after Hague got the taxpayer to pick up the bill for his trip to Afghanistan with Christopher Myers that the Tories would be a little more careful about this sort of thing. Where Hague spent an extra weekend in Bahrain with his adviser, Fox is only thought to have attended “private events” in Sri Lanka with Werritty.

So c'mon Cameron, where is the cleaning up of politics, the transparency ......... err nowhere to be exact.
As long as the political classes maintain there air of superiority over us all and there mental belief they are a class above us all issues like this will never stop.........regardless of the political party.

Ben Parkinson and the Military Covenant

David Cameron and the Tory/LibDem Coalition are liars.

"Tell me something new" I hear you cry.
Allow me to elaborate further!

Firstly we need to establish "What is the military covenant?"

It is .............
1. Britain's duty of care to its armed forces began as an unspoken pact between society and the military, possibly as far back as Henry VIII's reign.

2. The pact, reinforced by custom and convention, was formally codified as a "covenant" in 2000 but not made law.

3. It states soldiers will be called upon to make sacrifices - including the ultimate sacrifice. In return, they and their families can expect fair treatment and to be sustained and rewarded.

4. The covenant only officially applies to the army, but its core principles are taken to extend to the air force and navy.

These 4 principles were simply violated by the previous labour administration in every way.
The sheer contempt they showed our military was in my opinion criminal.

When a young Royal Marine losses and arm and a leg in Afghanistan and gains a compensation package less than an MOD typist who sued for RSI, I clearly know the country has gone mad.

However up step "Call Me Dave" and the new coalition.

David Cameron says the government must ensure that it is doing everything it can for the armed forces.

He said the military would get "the recognition it deserves".

Campaigners have long been calling for the nation's duty of care to personnel to be translated into firm pledges.

So in May of this year Cameron says he will place the Military Covenant into law.

He goes on to say "But in some areas we go further and make their needs a special case."

He added: "If we are asking our armed forces to do dangerous job in places like Afghanistan and Iraq, we have to ensure we are doing all we can for them in return."

He said the "historic agreement" meant the "value we place on those brave men and women who put their lives on the line will be written down for all to see".

The current military covenant states soldiers will be called upon to make personal sacrifices, including the ultimate sacrifice, and that they and their families should expect fair treatment and to be valued, respected and properly rewarded.

This is Ben Parkinson

Ben served with 7 Para Royal Horse Artillery before becoming the victim of a landmine.

I will not go into the details but suffice to say Ben is on record as the most seriously injured solider to ever survive.
His injury list is beyond reading and a tear appeared in my eye as I read it.
I know for a fact I would not have the courage that Ben has shown.

Many thought he would not survive the devastating Taliban bomb which shattered his body as he served his country in Afghanistan.

Ben came to symbolise the neglect of our wounded war heroes after being awarded a derisory £152,000 in compensation despite losing both legs, breaking his back and suffering catastrophic brain damage in the blast in September 2006.

Ben also lost the power of speech.

But after a campaign by a national newspaper his pay-out was eventually increased to £540,000, enabling his mother and stepfather to buy a specially adapted bungalow where they have been looking after him.

Since then he has confounded gloomy predictions for his future by ditching an electronic voice box he was using to communicate because it made him sound ‘like Stephen Hawking’, and learning to walk hundreds of yards at a time on his advanced prosthetic legs with the help of a frame.

This 26-year-old – who has eight hours of therapy every day – told of his ambitions for the future as his devoted mother spoke of her pride in his epic battle back to fitness. "And I want to go back to work. Hopefully I will go into Army recruiting" he had proudly announced.

But now as previously described, the most seriously wounded soldier to survive being injured in Afghanistan is being forced out of the Army.

As a serving soldier, Lance Bombardier Parkinson's treatment is paid for by the Ministry of Defence.

AND FUCKING GUESS WHAT ?????????????

But now the Army Medical Services Board has sent a letter telling him that it is recommending he is medically discharged.

This decision will mean he will return to the care of the NHS, and this will hamper the work he is putting into his recovery, which involves 37 hours a week of physiotherapy, gym work and speech therapy.

I am not decrying the NHS in any way .............. but the NHS is certainly not equipped to assist someone with Bens injuries ........... but more to the point ............ WHERE IS THE MILITARY COVENANT NOW??

C'mon Cameron, Clegg and that odious turd Liam Fox ........... where is your precious covenant and law and promise made in May .......... it will tell you where ....... with the pile of other lies that consistently pour out of your mouths.

So Sally "The Alley" Bercow has final arrived into the Big Brother house.

Couple of things spring to mind here.

1. Anyone who systematically watches this program needs certified under the mental health act.

2. What a absolute disgrace of a female she is. Infact what an absolute disgrace of a pair she and her husband make.

We all remember here this little piece about Ms Alley (yes that was her nick name and there is a good reason for that).

In normal times no man can be held responsible for the conduct of his wife, but in this case we are happy to make an exception. With John Bercow, this pair between them have made a major contribution to the destruction of the majesty and gravitas of parliament, helping to make it the tawdry joke that it has become.

This article says she aims to "stick it to the establishment" during the programme, heedless of the fact that she is part of the establishment, living in a grace and favour apartment which has cost us £20 Grand to refurb for him and the fact that Mr Speaker also trousered £146,780 in expenses, which includes £1390.64, for a satellite TV system, to save the pair the trouble of looting the local branch of Dixons.

One has to admit that this pair have got it made – having been able to delegate the parliamentary authorities to do their looting for them – and they certainly deserve each other. The question is whether we deserve such low grade personalities, a question which scarcely needs an answer.

As a voting public, the people of Buckingham are a disgrace. You voted him in and brought Mrs Speaker with him.

And remember you only get the politicians you deserve .............. you all forget 1 simple fact.

An Airline sex scandal has broken out !!

Hong Kong (CNN) — (and excuse the pun) A sex scandal that recently put Cathay Pacific into a tailspin is now causing more turmoil for the Hong Kong-based airline.

The carrier launched an investigation last week after explicit photos, purportedly showing a sex act involving a male and female employee in a plane’s cockpit, were published in newspapers and online.

The embarrassing episode has now affected Cathay’s newest phase of its "People and Service" marketing campaign, which uses the catchphrase ...........

Army on the Street .............. NO!!!

Despite the fact that he died around 620 BC, Draco the Lawgiver must be spinning with excitement in his grave.

We have witnessed some horrific scenes over the last few days. Acts of violence and theft committed by pure scum. There is no nobility in their actions. There is no honour. There was no need for this scandalous criminality.

I doubt that I can add any more words to a story that will play out over the next days, weeks and months.

What I would like to do though, is ask normally level-headed people to chill out. If I had a quid for every time I saw words like this, I would be a wealthy man:

"Send the army in!"

"Shoot them all!"

"Bring back hanging!"

And so on and so forth.

We pay billions of £££'s every year to ensure that police officers have the very best protective equipment, and that they receive the very best training for exactly this kind of civil disturbance. On this very blog we have looked at the police, live and in full colour, beating the bejesus out of protesters. Last night though, instead of kettling and righteous clubbing from the cops, I saw this:

I saw it time after time after time.

These boys in blue were happy to kettle young students, anti-war protesters, and other "soft" groups. But when it came to violent thugs, they stood by, claiming that "there are not enough of us". (Bear that in mind for what comes later.)

Send the army in? It is a very tiny mind that comes to that conclusion. The police have not yet fully deployed and they have not yet exhausted all methods of crowd control at their disposal. CS gas has not been used. Snatch Teams (to my knowledge) have not been used. Tasers have not been used. For legal reasons water cannon can not be used. So it is far too early to even think about deploying troops. Besides which, it is not their job. They should never be asked to control riots. Never. If you want to see how badly it can go wrong when squaddies are deployed, look south to Tunisia and Libya, look east to Syria and Bahrain. It goes pear-shaped very, very quickly. I am stunned that some empty-heads were screeching for martial law. FFS!

Enough of this. I'm reasonably sure you have read similar elsewhere.

I think we learnt at least two lessons from all this:

1. We are about to lose some liberties.
2. It doesn't take much to take over the streets.

That thin blue line is anorexic. My timing may well be all the way off, but the last few days have demonstrated much better than my words ever have that we are many and they are few. Imagine, if you can, just 500 people in every town and major city demanding full restoration of those rights which the government willingly (and unlawfully) gave away to Europe? Peaceful action by a significant number of people would ensure a complete takeover of the country in a matter of hours or days. Remember this the next time you try to convince yourself that we cannot bring about change if we were determined to.

Just in case you conclude that I am having a pop at the cops: I am not. I actually think they should have gone in hard, faster. With violent thieves, and they are no more or less than that, a spanking is all they understand. A solid teak baton around the napper would have stopped dozens of them cold. And when their cohorts see the claret fly, it concentrates the mind. This is probably the first and last time you will see me condone tough action from the police. The rioters broke my only law: do no harm. I would expect exactly the same harsh treatment if it was me doing the violence and the thieving.

We have been rewarding our thugs for 20 years. Warm, comfy cells, complete with PS3's, laptops and High Def tellies. When they are released, after serving a fraction of their sentence, we send them on their way with a hug. I believe, firmly, that most of this was Labour's doing. I just hope someone tells them that, repeatedly.

No martial law, no troops on the streets, no hanging. Got that?

I refuse to hand over any more of my liberties because a couple of hundred light-fingered bastards couldn't control themselves.

Punish those half-wits by all means.

But leave me the fuck alone.

You already stole too many of my rights. I want them back.

So Why Did Brooks Resign ??

So for some reason Rebekah Brooks has thrown in towel and tended her resignation from News International.

It was inevitable I guess considering the revelations not coming out.

Indeed the level of revelations etc are so stark I am beyond any belief that the lady in question had no knowledge of any shenanigans at all.

I mean even if she did have no knowledge, then she was certainly no fit person to be chief exec as to be that slack you have no knowledge of that kind of operation and indeed your company can give 130K in bungs (allegedly) to the Metropolitan Police, and you do not know about that, mean you are culpable in my book.

Anyway back on track ........... The investigation and indeed the course of the revelations grows more. Ms Brooks now finds herself in the mire. The Murdochs felt they could shield her but indeed the arrest of Coulson previously and yesterday the arrest Coulsons NotW deputy starts to heap the pressure on Brooks that she actually did know something.

Even Sir Paul Stevens the Met Plods chief is under the spotlight for his performance and that of his team (notice my wording there).

However when you have these 2 people this am make statements such as this .....

Firstly ...... Rupert Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth has made a “furious” attack on Rebekah Brooks’s handling of the phone hacking scandal at News International. Miss Murdoch, who is set to be given a seat on the board of her father’s News Corp empire, told friends that Mrs Brooks had “f----- the company”.

Secondly ...... Speaking on BBC Newsnight, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal Al Saud, News Corp's second largest shareholder, said Mrs Brooks should resign if there was any indication that she knew about the phone hacking taking place at the News of the World. He said: "I will not accept to deal with a company that has a lady or a man that has any sliver of doubts on her or his integrity."

So it appears that cracks are starting to appear now in the NI facade.

IMHO Brooks knows everything. The Murdochs attempts to shield her are intentional because she knows were the bodies are buried. Coulson, the deputy and now the Met Chief will all cough up to save their skins and their guilt edge pensions.

What we do not know however is what the deal is behind the scenes for Brooks to walk away, face the music, do the time and no doubt keep her big gob shut.

Mind you I have an idea! Her ex hubby Ross Kemp, apart from laughing his arse off this morning, can now go and do one of those famous award winning series he does ...... you know "Worlds toughest Gangs" etc.

What you cant accept Gordon is your failure still.

Your skill level.
Your fiscal policies which are now coming home to roast
Your temper
Your drug taking
The fact NI hated you and as a result removed support from YOU causing the loss in support from the labour party.
Any other leader in charge may well have kept the support and as a result kept the No10 job.

Scotland Yard detectives are to reveal why their first News of the World investigation failed, if the Government pays them a large sum of cash in used notes.

Metropolitan Police chief David Watterson made the pledge today as David Cameron launched an independent inquiry into the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

Cameron has vowed to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of truth and has demanded “why did the first police investigation fail so abysmally?”

Chief Superintendent Watterson told The News Grind today: “There is absolutely no need to have this independent inquiry into the News of the World. I have a crack team of officers more than happy to reveal what’s going on … if the price is right.

“Brown envelope, £2,500, leave it behind the fourth bin at the back of Scotland Yard. Bung in a monkey and we’ll pull Andy Coulson over for speeding. How does that sound?”

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said he was appalled at the comments made by the Scotland Yard chief.

“It is absolutely disgusting,” the Downing Street spokesman said, “For a monkey we’d expect Coulson to be fitted up on trumped up drugs charges at the very least.”

Yes that bit is tongue in cheek on an otherwise "vile taste in the mouth" story.

However ask yourself the question why

Why would and I admit it has finally to be proven in a court of law .......... Why would someone or an institution go to these lengths? To weave a web so vile that it ends up in a clusterfuck of this magnitude!!?

I will tell you why!!

Simple it is because of US.

Our dirty little obsession with all things salacious and filthy. We love hurt misery and pain. And if we can get our hands on it we thrive on it. So let the law deal with Brookes, Coulson, Cameron, Blair and whom ever else has made an error of judgement and been party to this sordid mess...........
Let the law deal with the supposed up holders of the law in the Metroplitain police, and the bung takers who put on said uniform...........

But also let the public take a look also at itself and perhaps, just perhaps you might want to change your attitude to life and others, and think again about your constant need to fuel your appetite for everyone elses misery .............

Its with horror that we learn on Sunday .......... staff at a Metropolitan Police building were alerted to two police dogs having been left in an unventilated private vehicle.

The two dogs were found on in the back of the trainer's own car at the Met's dog training centre in Keston, Kent.

Entry was forced to the vehicle and two Metropolitan police dogs – a working Belgian Malinois (shepherd) and a German Shepherd puppy were found in a state of collapse.

Both were taken to an emergency vet where they subsequently died.

An investigation by the Department of Professional standards into the circumstances of this incidence has begun.

Horrific ........... temperatures inside the vehicles would have reached in excess of 50°C in under an hour. The animals stood no chance at all.

Now my rant is simple ........... and no its not the fact that 2 animals needlessly suffered and died. That is a given. I care for most animals more than I do people but that's for another day.

My rant is the handler.

You see the officer in this instance is a certain Sgt Ian Craven. Nothing odd in that except when you look into it Sgt Craven has a disciplinary on his record in 2004.

What for ??????

Well ....... The death of a dog in his charge!!

So I ask the question why was he still a dog handler?
Why was he still in charge of animals?

Does the police not view the life of the dog that serious ........... clearly not !!

A precedent has been set ... These deaths follow those of two German Shepherd police dogs, which died in a hot car outside Nottinghamshire Police headquarters in July 2009.

Police dog handler Pc Mark Johnson was given a six-month conditional discharge after he was found guilty of animal cruelty in relation to the deaths of the two dogs.

We also learn that following these deaths Sgt Ian Craven, 49, flung himself from a police vehicle he was in and was then declared a missing person. Source.

The officer was found in Newham, east London, with hand injuries. He was still receiving medical treatment last night, police said. But he has no injuries other than that.

OK IMHO Sgt Craven is totally at fault. A complete lack of care and basically a lack of brains. Sgt Craven should never have been in the dog unit post the death in 2004 of a previous animal. He is under investigation, and I trust is removed from post with immediate effect.

Personally I hope the CPS act quickly and swiftly. Sgt Craven is not above the law and as such is not immune from its actions as a result of wearing a uniform.

The entire 2011 census database has been stolen by hackers and will be published online.

Ryan Cleary, an alleged member of the hacking group behind the claim, LulzSec, was arrested in Essex this morning by specialist cyber crime officers from Scotland Yard.

The 19-year-old was taken to a central London police station and remains in custody on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act and Fraud Act offences.

A “significant amount of material” was also seized from an address in Wickford, Essex.

The “pre-planned intelligence-led operation” in collaboration with the FBI followed claims online that the 2011 census database had been stolen and would be published in full.

“We have blissfully obtained records of every single citizen who gave their records to the security-illiterate UK government for the 2011 census,” a posting purportedly by LulzSec said.

Well I never. I am shocked. Never in a million years did I think anyone would attempt to go and steal millions of people private info, history, life and living info, kids history, schools, dates of birth, sexual preferences, education histories, car info, religions info or who ever you where banging on the night of the 27th February 2011.

Absolutely shocking ................ honestly I am truly stunned by this revelation.

I must say how grateful I am to the FBI for the help they have given as the info was in the hands of a US defence contractor for storage and processing.

So it is that this morning I awoke to the dulcet tones of a news broadcast of the wireless ............ well rather nice DAB to be exact but a broadcast non the less to hear a tirade from a certain Mark Serwotka.

Mr Serwotka is the leader of the PCS union.
The PCs union is the union of civil servants.

However this am Mark was waxing lyrical about how hundreds of thousands of public sector workers are poised to go on strike in protest at pay freezes and pension changes.

Indeed desperate times Mark I agree, but don't you think maybe you are being a little bit of a hypocrite here.

But first I must digress .......... Now the reason for this Mark is so we can really see a little about who you are and your motives.

OK .......... Serwotka became a union representative in 1980, and became a personal case officer in 1995.

In the 2000 election that saw Serwotka elected General Secretary, he initially faced two rival candidates:

Hugh Lanning of the Membership First faction and the incumbent Barry Reamsbottom of the National Moderate Group.

However, Reamsbottom did not secure the fifty branch nominations needed to appear on the ballot paper. Serwotka then beat Lanning with 41,000 to 33,000 votes.

Following Serwotka's election, Reamsbottom refused to step down when his term of office expired, citing what he claimed were legal irregularities in the election process.

The dispute was taken to the High Court where Serwotka won and subsequently assumed office.

In December 2009, Serwotka was re-elected for a five-year term, gaining 37,866 votes against Rob Bryson's 21,883.
So it is fair to say that Marks appointment is somewhat shadowed in errr mystery. Yes that's a good word.

But also we find this tidbit of info .......... In the 2000 election campaign, Serwotka pledged that he would only accept an average member's wage. However, in 2009he received £86,244 in salary as well as £25,441 in pensions contributions and a £1,076 additional housing cost allowance.

WOW..........Really so not only was the appointment eeerrr Mysterious as I said but perhaps Mark was also somewhat eeerrrr mysterious with his pledge over his salary in his campaign and what he actually received .......... hhmmmm !!!

Mark I understand you position ........... I feel for you with your membership each paying you their £3.00 per week demanding that you ride in your big white horse and tell the nasty government that it wont happen, and that you wont allow it ........ BUT ...... lets be honest its the private sector that will drive the economy. Its the businesses etc that will make the revenue to pay the taxes that allow the bloated public service to survive. Perhaps you should maybe, just maybe think about supporting them and helping to ensure they can go forward and have a future, employ more people, make some money and help secure a recovery, instead of flapping you quite simply lying mouth a proven by your election in a vain effort to extract more union subs from your already beleaguered membership.

However an £82 grand basic sure helps ensure you wont be feeling the pain they do eh!!!

Some days you wake up and to see the news, then a massive smile comes across your face when you then see that all the time you knew that Ed Balls was a poisonous shit, it now actually comes out and proves that he is really is.

Oh that feeling.

Today we find out in the Telegraph about "The key role" played by shadow chancellor Ed Balls in a “brutal” plot to destroy Tony Blair. In secret documents.

Mr Balls, as well as the current Labour leader Ed Miliband, began scheming to divide their party within weeks of the 2005 general election in a plot codenamed Project Volvo, which was launched as London was under attack from Islamic terrorists.

This newspaper has seen letters between Mr Blair and Gordon Brown which reveal the extraordinary rift at the heart of Labour.

The cache of documents show for the first time Mr Brown’s feelings towards Mr Blair in his own words and handwriting, material which has previously only been the subject of speculation and second-hand reports from anonymous sources.

Mr Brown makes it clear, in a series of memos, that he regarded his rival as a “muddled” lightweight whose obsession with spin destroyed trust in politics. He used the perception of “lies” over the Iraq War to try to force Mr Blair’s early departure.

Mr Brown ordered Mr Balls to take a “brutal” approach to cleanse the Labour Party of Mr Blair’s influence.

Mr Blair’s memoirs, the updated version of which were published yesterday, detail his frustration with his Chancellor’s behaviour. In one memo, he warned Mr Brown that the “division at the top is killing us”.

The Ed Balls files — the personal papers of Mr Balls which have been passed to The Daily Telegraph — set out in detail how those around Mr Brown plotted from July 2005 to remove Mr Blair from No 10.

They give an insight into Mr Balls’s central role in the plot, with Mr Brown passing his former aide the most secret memos that Mr Blair sent to him in confidence.

The files disclose details of secret meetings, opinion polls on Mr Blair’s policies and how Mr Brown’s allies tried to rebrand his image.

Three of the key conspirators now occupy the most senior positions in the Labour Party: Mr Balls, Mr Miliband and Douglas Alexander, the shadow foreign secretary.

More than 30 people, including figures in politics, business and the arts, are named as being involved. Most were rewarded with peerages or government positions by Mr Brown.

Private memos between Mr Brown and Mr Balls heavily criticise Mr Blair, and the pair discussed how to undermine the Prime Minister.

The disclosure of more than 30 documents will call into question Mr Balls’s senior role in the party, as he emerges as a deeply divisive character whose public statements and private activities have been at odds.

Mr Balls has previously insisted he had “never ever” been involved in attempts to undermine colleagues.

The files show how Mr Balls was at the centre of an extraordinary attempt to broker a deal between Mr Brown and Mr Blair to let the Chancellor become prime minister.

In February 2006, Mr Blair sent Mr Brown a secret unsigned letter setting out terms of a proposed deal.

The letter says: “You (understandably) want me to go now.

“You need to be the candidate of continuity and change. The second will be relatively easy to do. A different person is, by its nature, change.

“The first, however, rests on a smooth transition. Critical to that is not merely the absence of disunity in the handover; it is also the visible, clear demonstration that the person who most embodies NL [New Labour], ie me, is working hand in hand with the successor.”

He suggests a five-point deal that includes Mr Brown leading on party reform, democratic renewal and work to tackle Islamic extremism. The pair would work together and Mr Blair would then announce he would leave in summer 2007.

Mr Blair concludes that “in return” he would need “full help and co-operation in getting through his own reform agenda: NHS, schools, respect, welfare and energy.”

He ends with a warning: “Whilst I remain PM, the final decision has to be mine; and that cannot provoke a breakdown. I will try, at all costs, to avoid disagreement, but there can’t be stalemate if it happens.”

On a copy of the letter he passed to Mr Balls, Mr Brown scribbled the words “shallow”, “inconsistent” and “muddled”. The pair responded by drawing up their own terms.

In a draft of his deal document, which he intended Mr Blair to sign, Mr Brown wrote: “I propose the following: Across a wide range of areas you [Brown] are put in charge of future working groups beyond economic policy so that Labour with you leading is seen as party able to meet big challenges of future.”

“You [Brown] will however set out with my full support and that of my team, the agenda for beyond 2007 and for the next parliament.”

Mr Brown also set out the need for written six-month, twelve-month and two-year plans, and a written agreement for strategy to deal with David Cameron. He also demanded a role in Cabinet reshuffles and that he attend international meetings.

Mr Blair, who is understood to have been incensed by the rudeness of Mr Balls, rejected the proposals.

The talks were the culmination of more than six months of plotting by the Brownites. The files show that the plot began on July 19, 2005, less than a fortnight after the terror attacks on London. Mr Balls had only become an MP at the election in May.

Six of those closest to Mr Brown — Mr Balls, Mr Miliband, Mr Alexander, Sue Nye, Spencer Livermore and Ian Austin — formed a “small group” to perform tasks including winning over MPs, unions, party members and think tanks. Sarah Brown, Mr Brown’s wife, was also asked to persuade senior women in Labour to back her husband.

Now we all knew Gordon Brown was a little unhinged. His use of MAOI's,his bigot gate scandal, the famous NOKIA hurling incidents .............. are not news.

Former Tory peer Lord Taylor of Warwick has been jailed for 12 months for fiddling his expenses.

The 58-year-old had argued the six claims he had submitted - totalling £11,277.80 - were made in good faith.

He previously admitted breaking the expenses rules, but argued he had done so because it was a common practice among peers to claim items "in lieu of a salary".

Ed Balls, who had the responsibility to make sure his idealogical vision of being the Shepherd to a weak and pathetic flock was enforced.

And when it failed, Sharon Shoesmith felt the full wrath of Stalin shooting his Generals. In the panic to blame someone, anyone but the system, she was out. Vilified by the media and her fellow Fabians, she was a FAILURE, a traitor to her masters in Westminster. She killed Baby P with her own bare hands.

We learn here that ..........Sharon Shoesmith the ex-children's services director of Haringey Council says she is "thrilled" to have won an appeal against a ruling that her sacking after Baby Peter's death was lawful.

Court of Appeal judges allowed Sharon Shoesmith's challenge against a High Court ruling that cleared former children's secretary Ed Balls and Haringey Council of acting unlawfully.

Her appeal against watchdog Ofsted was dismissed.

Baby Peter Connelly was found dead in August 2007 with more than 50 injuries.

A subsequent Ofsted report exposed failings in her department.

In December 2008, Ms Shoesmith was sacked, bringing her 35-year career to an abrupt end.

She first heard of her dismissal when then children's secretary Ed Balls announced she would be removed from her post with immediate effect in a live press conference on television.

She said after the hearing: "I'm over the moon. Absolutely thrilled.

"I am very relieved to have won my appeal and for recognition I was treated unfairly and unlawfully."

She said the sorrow of Peter's death would "stay with me for the rest of my life".

Ms Shoesmith had asked Lord Neuberger, Master of the Rolls, sitting with Lord Justice Maurice Kay and Lord Justice Stanley Burnton, to rule that her sacking without compensation was so legally flawed as to be null and void.

Her lawyers had argued that she was the victim of "a flagrant breach of natural justice" after she lost her £133,000-a-year post amid a media storm.

Ms Shoesmith also argued she was entitled to her full salary and pension from Haringey up to the present day.

'Tainted by unfairness'

The judges said they were allowing Ms Shoesmith's appeal against Mr Balls because "the secretary of state did not afford Ms Shoesmith the opportunity to put her case".

In the case of Haringey, the judges said: "We were unanimously of the view that Haringey's procedures were tainted by unfairness."

Lawyers for Ms Shoesmith said the ruling meant she could now launch appeals against Ed Balls and Haringey Council.

The BBC's education correspondent Reeta Chakrabarti said the Court of Appeal had indicated there was no question of Ms Shoesmith returning to her position at Haringey Council.

The matter of compensation or lost earnings would need to be considered by another court, she added.

Seventeen-month-old Baby P, subsequently named as Peter Connelly, was found to have suffered fractured ribs and a broken back after months of abuse at home. His mother, her partner and a lodger were all jailed for causing or allowing his death.

Peter had been seen by health and social services professionals from Haringey council 60 times in the eight months before he died.

Rejected Westminster MP and Holyrood Jonnie-come-lately Willie Rennie has unveiled his “team”. Fresh from his stunning “victory” on the Fife and Central Scotland list new Scottish Lib Dem leader Rennie has at last revealed his front bench team.

Willie was reluctantly propelled into the lime light as leader of the Lib Dem group after a hard fought leadership race where he was the only candidate. He hit the ground running by promising to reaffirm his cosy relationship with Nick Clegg and Westminster pals much as he remembered it down in his halcyon days in London. Rennie had had nothing much to do after the people of Fife told him to sling his hook in the 2010 English general election. Since then he has had to slum it as an advisor at the Scottish office until a suitable billet could be found.

Orkney constituency MSP Liam McArthur will take on education and energy; North-East list MSP Alison McInnes will be responsible for health and justice; South Scotland list MSP Jim Hume will take rural affairs, environment, housing and transport; failed ex-leader and Shetland constituency MSP Tavish Scott will deal with business and the economy. Leaving Willie as Lib Dem lord high everything else and leader. Needless to say there will be no chief whip!

The line up caused some raised eyebrows as Nick Clegg was expected to fill all the other roles. But in a shock move Nick was relegated to a back seat somewhere in Downing Street.

AN unpopular plan to upgrade the RAF’s fleet of Puma helicopters by sending them to the other side of Europe for a £300m refit was ditched in 2009 because Labour MPs feared that carrying out the upgrading and maintenance work in Romania would provoke a “voter backlash”.

Back then the Times reported: “Labour MPs are worried about the reaction of voters amid rising unemployment in Britain.” But under the coalition the decision has been quietly reversed; and the RAF is busily crating up its Pumas at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire and sending them to Eurocopter Romania by, er, road.

The basic maintenance, overhauls, inspections and upgrades will be carried out by Romanian workers at Eurocopter’s factory near Bucharest. Each convoy is made up of “wide load” trucks led by an NCO in a Convoi Exceptionnel warning van, together with an extra truck full of spare parts for the journey. RAF markings are concealed to avoid embarrassment.

Once upgraded, the helicopters will then be crated up again and driven all the way back to RAF Benson. Certification to allow them to fly back to the UK is unavailable because they are not allowed to be flight-tested while in Romania.

Naturally it’s just a coincidence that the order went to Romania while Eurocopter Romania’s parent company, the defence giant EADS, also happens to be building the RAF’s new transport aircraft, the Airbus A400m, which will cost UK taxpayers £2.4bn for just 25 aircraft. That project is beset with problems and EADS needs all the help it can get from its UK defence partners.

Will any patriotic MP now ask why the RAF also routinely flies its other transport aircraft, Tristars, VC-10s and Globemasters, to France for re-painting?
In fact it’s because the French are less rigorous in enforcing the EU’s COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) rules, making it cheaper for the MoD to give jobs to foreign workers than to their British counterparts.

So once again the unions are up in arms about spending cuts.

Now don't say I am not giving space to other opinions but from this quality publication here comes this .......... Delegates to the PCS civil service workers' union today (Wednesday) sent a defiant message to the government by voting almost unanimously to launch a strike ballot.

Only two people voted against. There were loud cheers in the conference centre after the vote was taken.

The union will now ballot 270,000 members, with activists mobilising to win the biggest yes vote on the biggest turn out.

Workers aim to coordinate their strike over pensions, pay, job cuts and in defence of public services with members of education unions on 30 June.

This is set to be a day of rage against the Tories' attacks.

Indeed a powerful anti government message.

I also listened to the amazing Bob Crow this am. He is leader of the RMT union and his attack on the fact that somebody dared say the trains need a bit of a kick up the arse.
Well Bob take it from me they do .......... I will do everything I can rather than use a train ...... for the simple fact they are shit !!!
Oh and for the record the UK rail network is the most inefficient in Europe and the most costly to run.
It costs £11bn a year to operate and receives £5bn a year from the taxpayer. Yes the same tax payer that also then buys a ticket so in fact is paying twice ........... and you wonder why I wont use the bloody thing!!!

Also be advised that the same Bob Crow despite earning a staggering £130K a year in basic salary also exploits a loophole in the law by living in a housing association property for low income families in North London. Despite his salary he pays a mere £150 a week. Its calculated he has saved some £80k in accommodation costs. Hardly fair on the 5m estimated in
need of housing assistance whilst at the same time he bangs on about the government and its exploitation of the working classes and its protection of the rich ............ errrr which category do you put yourself in Bob ???? ...........see here

In amongst the news today it is announced that...........Willie Rennie has been appointed leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

Apparently it was a unanimous decision to appoint him ............ it actually transpired he was the only candidate.......*snigger snort*
He accepted the appointment at North Queensferry, with one of the party’s oldest members and one of the youngest.

Commenting, Mr Rennie said:

“I’m delighted to be the new leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

“We need to reflect on the disappointment of the Scottish Parliament election results and move on and up. I’m here today with Jimmy Gordon and Neil Alexander. Two of our oldest and youngest members. I want to connect with the party at all levels.

I have met with Mr Rennie many times .............. I cant stand him.

He is rude and has been very disrespectful about an issue with my family....indeed an odious man.

He is factually incorrect and indeed is completely wrong about his comments on "Nuclear Submarines" in Rosyth dockyard (notice the inverted commas there).

Also both he a the now Ex MSP Jim Tolson still have huge questions hanging over them about expenses money used to pay rent on their Dunfermline offices.

A Sad Anniversary

A year ago yesterday Tlotf lost most his very best friend.

I mean Calum was friend to the point that............for e.g. should I have need to get married again the automatic, no second choice, the guy to be "Best Man".

How ever that is not to be !!

Yesterday saw the 1st year anniversary of the loss of my best friend in a tragic motorcycle accident.

As everyone who knew me a year ago knows I went through the wringer on this issue.
I blamed myself. I taught Calum to ride, I went with him when he bought his first bike, I bought his first helmet for him as a gift. We rode together, covered many miles.

I thought and its true that if I had kept my gob shut, he would not have past his test, would not be a biker and would not have died in that accident.

It took me easily 4 months to get back on my own bike.
It was hard but I had too..........I kinda think I heard him in my helmet when I finally did go out..........I think he was telling me it was ok!!.

I dont blame myself anymore..............I did !!! But i know it really was an accident!

The court case against the tractor driver is still going through, its a real mess.

I still miss him.
Time is a great healer but I don't think in this case I will ever be totally free...........and that may well be a good thing.

You will see from the photo several of us went along to the accident scene yesterday.
We laid flowers, and I even wrote a letter to him and left it there, you can see the wee grey envalope. It was easier than speaking.

Now that the 1st anniversary is done...........I think I can, so far as possible let this go now.
Yesterday was difficult but the sun was shining and on the way home I was very sad.
However I woke this am with feeling of relief, maybe a burden lifted.

The helmet and leathers are coming out and getting cleaned!!!!!!!!

The weather is a changin' !!

New Terror Alert Status

Following on from the demise of Osama Bin Laden..........Terrorist alerts both sides of the Atlantic have been re-issued in accordance with new threats about Extremist reprisals.

They are as follows........

The English have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross."

The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.

Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Fucked Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France 's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing.." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbor" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels ...

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the "New Spanish Navy" can get a really good look at the "Old Spanish Navy".

Australia , meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be right, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is canceled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.

A Very Sad Day..............Claude Choules R.I.P.

The world's last known combat veteran of World War I, Claude Choules, has died in Australia aged 110.

Known to his comrades as Chuckles, British-born Mr Choules joined the Royal Navy at 15 and went on to serve on HMS Revenge.

He moved to Australia in the 1920s and served in the military until 1956.

Mr Choules, who had been married to his wife Ethel for 76 years, was reported to have died in his sleep at a nursing home in his adopted city of Perth.

He is survived by three children and 11 grandchildren. His wife died three years ago.

Mr Choules' 84-year-old daughter, Daphne Edinger, told the Associated Press news agency: "We all loved him. It's going to be sad to think of him not being here any longer, but that's the way things go."

Born in Pershore, Worcestershire, in March 1901, Mr Choules tried to enlist in the Army at the outbreak of WWI to join his elder brothers who were fighting, but was told he was too young.

He lied about his age to become a Royal Navy rating, joining the battleship HMS Revenge on which he saw action in the North Sea aged 17.

He witnessed the surrender of the German fleet in the Firth of Forth in November 1918, then the scuttling of the fleet at Scapa Flow.

Mr Choules remembered WWI as a "tough" life, marked by occasional moments of extreme danger.

After the war he served as a peacekeeper in the Black Sea and in 1926 was posted as an instructor to Flinders Naval Depot, near Melbourne. It was on the passenger liner to Australia that he met his future wife.

He transferred to the Royal Australian Navy and after a brief spell in the reserves rejoined as a Chief Petty Officer in 1932.

During World War II he was chief demolition officer for the western half of Australia. It would have been his responsibility to blow up the key strategic harbour of Fremantle, near Perth, if Japan had invaded.

Mr Choules joined the Naval Dockyard Police after finishing his service.

But despite his military record, Mr Choules became a pacifist. He was known to have disagreed with the celebration of Australia's most important war memorial holiday, Anzac Day, and refused to march in the annual commemoration parades.

He took a creative writing course at the age of 80 and recorded his memoirs for his family. They formed the basis of the autobiography, The Last of the Last, which was published in 2009.

The last three WWI veterans living in Britain - Bill Stone, Henry Allingham and Harry Patch - all died in 2009.

Another Briton, Florence Green - who turned 110 in February and was a waitress in the Women's Royal Air Force - is now thought to be the world's last known surviving service member of WWI. An American veteran, Frank Buckles, died earlier this year.

We are about to loose he last thread of contact to this terrible war. The sheer barbaric nature of it at times was beyond comprehension.
This is a chapter in humanhistory that should never be forgotten !!

Osama Bin Laden.........................What is the Truth !!

Yes I did a post yesterday............in fact below this 1 on my disbelief of the US story on Osama Bin Laden.

I state again............I am certain the man is dead........however he was not killed in a Special Forces raid on Sunday. I think he died quite some time ago.

I feel the story of how his demise came about to be fictitious .......... not that he is dead.

Anyway in the Graph comes this ditty.......Officials said on Monday that bin Laden's body had initially been identified using facial recognition technology on a photograph wired back to Washington from Abbottabad, before a DNA test was carried out that proved with "99.9 per cent certainty" that it was the al-Qaeda leader.

But yesterday a US congressman cast doubt on whether the DNA tests had yet been carried out. Representative Ron Paul, a Republican presidential candidate and a doctor, said: "I understand he was killed Sunday afternoon and by Sunday nine o’clock it was announced that the President would speak and they had DNA proof of the individual. I didn't know they could do DNA that quickly. Then they came back and said it was facial features and we'll get the results of the DNA later".
it takes 24-72 hours to get a DNA specimen result. With a high quality sample, it is possible to get a preliminary result in as little as six hours, but you still have to get the sample to the lab ... which was where?

And, in any case, they are only making a comparison with the sister's DNA. That just proves a familial relationship. It is not proof – or anything like it - of identity. Thus, we are now told the reliance was on facial recognition technology, using a photograph "wired back" to Washington from Abbottabad. Was that before or after his face was blown away with two head shots? Does anybody realise how unreliable facial recognition technology is, and how high the error rate is, even under optimal conditions? Says Wikipedia:
Other conditions where face recognition does not work well include poor lighting, sunglasses, long hair, or other objects partially covering the subject's face, and low resolution images. Another serious disadvantage is that many systems are less effective if facial expressions vary. Even a big smile can render the system less effective.
Would a blank stare and a grimace through having your head shot off, as well as being dead, also have a marginal effect? At least, whoever they shot probably wasn't smiling.

Then, let's not talk about the lighting conditions, or whether they took the photograph square on. Of course, they could have published the photograph(s) on which they relied ... that would settle any doubts. They could have sent copies of the photographs to independent universities, which specialise in face recognition technology, for independent corroboration. But all this they seem strangely reluctant to do so.

However, joining in this theatre of the absurd, we now have The Times tell us that Osama bin Laden’s 12-year-old daughter has reportedly told Pakistani investigators that her father was captured alive by US Special Forces before being shot dead in front of his family. Presumably, it was after that, with the famous head shots, that they then took the photograph for facial recognition purposes.

Well, at least if there are any doubts, the US have custody of the body, so they can repeat the tests. Oh woops! They've dumped the body in the Arabian Sea - or so I am told by a man, who knows another man, who knows a man who told him. He does not work in Area 51 by the way.

But it is a pity that a body has been deep-sixed. However, even if the evidence was now recoverable, it would not be conclusive. Would anybody like to tell me why the story so far is not a pile of horse manure?

Bin Laden Dead..........No I dont Believe You !

When the Bolivian Army killed Che Guevara in October 1967, they displayed his body as proof that he was indeed dead. The Bolivians in fact staged the body so that ordinary people—and the world’s journalists—could get a good view of the corpse, up close and personal.

The above photograph, grisly though it may be, is one of hundred taken of Che’s body. It—along with the pictures and testimony of hundreds of journalists and ordinary people who saw his corpse—puts to rest any notion that Guevara somehow survived—which of course was the whole point: The Bolivian Army wanted there to be no doubts that El Che was really dead.

My readers know I don’t truck in conspiracy theories. I believe Elvis is dead, I believe Diana was an accident, I believe 9/11 was a terrorist incident, and I believe Neil Armstrong did in fact land on the moon.

But I don’t believe Osama Bin Laden was killed over the weekend.

The story goes that Bin Laden was tracked down to a multi-storey compound in the middle of the Pakistani hinterlands, where he was shot twice in the head by American Special Forces. These soldiers then took his body, and buried it at sea.

That’s the story. But I don’t buy it.

Just to be clear, I do not believe Bin Laden is still alive. I believe what a lot of intelligence analysts have been privately saying for a long time now: That Bin Laden died of kidney failure in December 2001, and that he was buried by his followers in an unmarked grave in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

After all, it was a known fact that Bin Laden had severe kidney problems. People who spoke with him in 2000 and 2001 said how sick he looked, and described symptoms that matched kidney failure. From these accounts, the international intelligence community was pretty much in agreement that he had some sort of severe kidney problems. Without dialysis or a kidney transplant—neither which would have been available to him in the aftermath of 9/11—he wouldn’t have much chance of long term survival.

From 2002 onward, there hasn’t been a single undisputed Bin Laden sighting—even though he was supposed to be the most hunted man on earth. Furthermore, in Bin Laden’s videotaped rants that were periodically released, he never referred to current events. The only times he did refer to current events was on some of the 30 audio tapes he allegedly released over the last ten years—“allegedly” because many of these audio tapes are in dispute, as to whether they actually were made by Bin Laden or not.

Moreover—and most tellingly—the American military’s efforts to capture Bin Laden “dead or alive” in W.’s ridiculous phrase dropped to almost nothing after 2003. Many people from both the Left and the Right wondered at this dismissal of Bin Laden as a viable threat by the defense and intelligence communities—his dismissal even as someone to worry about, or even take seriously.

Bizarre: That the mastermind of the most egregious terrorist attack in U.S. history—the worst mass killing of American citizens on U.S. soil since the Civil War, as I understand it—was treated so la-di-da by the American defense and intelligence communities.

Yet after 2003, for the next eight years, the American military offered up a mere token effort to find him “dead or alive”. An attitude that makes absolutely no sense at all..............................unless you already know that the man is dead, and that his body will likely never be found.

This was my impression: The American defense and intelligence agencies knew he was dead, and knew they would never likely find his body. In fact a couple of intelligence types I know privately confirmed this line of thinking.

But then Monday morning, I wake up to hear about Osama Bin Laden’s death.

He was killed not in some cave, as he was famous for inhabiting, but rather in a multi-storey compound in the Pakistani countryside—a compound that stuck out like a sore thumb—a compound not one kilometer away from a Pakistani military base.

Some U.S. Special Forces stormed the compound, and shot Osama Bin Laden dead.

This man was the most feared and terrible terrorist in U.S. history—and rather than make every effort to capture him alive, and thereby bring him to justice for the whole world to see, Bin Laden was shot in the head. Twice—as if for good measure.

Then, supposedly following Islamic tradition that the dead must be buried within 24 hours, Osama Bin Laden was given a hurry-up burial at sea—which explicitly goes against Islamic tradition.

Other Muslims killed by the Americans and their allies were not buried immediately. For instance, the sons of Saddam Hussein. Their corpses were held for a while, in order to confirm that they were indeed the intended targets.

But Osama Bin Laden? Killed and buried at sea in record time—even though there hadn’t been a confirmed sighting of him in something like eleven years.

Well sort of..........please see above. Many a photoshop theory about the lack of skills of the CIA in that dept....do your own comparison.....and that is from me, Mr no conspiracy theory.

Nor have there been any pictures of this “burial at sea”. There’ve been plenty of video of where Bin Laden was killed—but none (so far as above shows) of the actual corpse.

In fact aside from the word of the American defense and intelligence establishment, there hasn’t been a shred of evidence that they did in fact kill him.

All we have is the official word of the American defense and intelligence establishments.

Mm-hmm. Because they’ve always been so trustworthy.

Malcolm Gladwell wrote a very interesting book called Blink. In it, he explained how experts often get a first-look reaction to something, a knee-jerk reaction that often as not turns out to be true. He gives as an example an art expert who took one look at a celebrated painting that was about to be sold—and declared it a hoax on the spot. The seller, buyer and art gallery handling the sale all said that the expert was wrong, that the painting was the real deal—until sophisticated authentication techniques revealed that in fact it was a forgery.

The second I heard about Osama Bin Laden’s death, my reaction was that it was bullshit.

The whole story smells: Where he was supposedly located; how he was shot twice in the head, rather than captured; how he was buried at sea; how there’s (so far) no picture of his corpse.

The American military might claim that they held on to bits of DNA samples of the corpse they say is Osama Bin Laden’s. They might claim that this is proof positive that he is dead. But as far as I’m concerned—and I’m a non-conspiracy, fairly skeptical sort—I’ll never believe them. A lab report is not the same as an actual corpse.

To insist: I do not for a second doubt that he is indeed dead. I just don’t believe that he was killed this past weekend. I believe that he died quite some time ago—years ago, in fact.

In my mind, whoever was killed this weekend was not Osama Bin Laden.

I am way outside the mainstream on this. The mainstream consensus in the USA is that this was a “great victory”. President Obama gave what amounted to a “Mission Accomplished” speech. People were celebrating outside the White House and on Times Square as if it were V-E Day. Prime Minister Cameron also hailed this news and takes about the phone call that awakened him from President Obama with the news.

(As an aside, I do have to point out how ugly it is to celebrate the killing of another human being. Because that is what we saw in New York and Washington: People cheering in the streets, celebrating a murder. It’s not only ugly, indeed, it is repulsive.)

But I don’t really see how this assassination is a “victory”. President Obama claims “Justice has been done”—but that’s simply not true.

Justice would have been served if he had been captured, flown to New York, and tried in a (civilian) court for the events of 9/11.

Extra-judicial assassination is not “justice”—it’s merely revenge, something that Christianity, the dominant morality of the United States, specifically rejects. Don’t believe me? Read Matthew 5:38, or more apropos, Luke 6:27. .......However dont tar me now as a religious nutter..........religion itself IMHO has been the cause of more pain an death in the world that any other subject.......I find religion a difficult subject to accept.

Someone might argue that, if what I think is true—that Bin Laden died years ago, and this is some big old hoax—then what would be the point of this hoax?

I have no idea. One can only speculate—and any such speculation will be pointless and endless, not to mention endlessly boring.

Perhaps—what with all this talk of “victory”—it might be that this was staged in order to give an excuse for rapid withdrawal not only from Afghanistan, but from Iraq as well. Perhaps this charade is an excuse to declare “victory” and thereby end the endless Global War On Terror. After all, the United States, The UK is going literally bankrupt—and a lot of the reason is because of its unsustainable military spending. Bin Laden’s “death” might give the perfect excuse for a sudden, rapid draw-down, in particular as the United States’ fiscal budget is about to tip over into insolvency.

But this is idle speculation on my part—buttressed by nothing but air.

The sad thing is, we’ll probably never know the truth—which is a pity. Had Bin Laden been shown to the world’s press—just like the Bolivian Army did with Che Guevara—there would be no doubts. Because when the Bolivian Army showed off Che Guevara‘s corpse, there were international cries of outrage at the “brutality” of parading his corpse around for all to see.

But not even that perennial fantasist Fidel Castro could deny the truth that El Che was indeed dead.

With Osama Bin Laden? We’ll never be really sure.

ANZAC Day, 25 April, is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military operation fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

Today Australians will reflect on the many different meanings of war and throughout the country Dawn Services will be observed.

The poem was sent by an Australian friend who shares my view there is no glory in war, only pain and grief. Dialogue is far more valuable. None of our recent leaders has had personal experience of war - more's the pity - because if they had been active participants they may not be so extravagant with the use of our armed forces.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

Subversion of Due Process: The Death of Dr. David Kelly

To that end I will post the open letter sent to David Cameron 26/03/2011..........

Dear Prime Minister,

SUBVERSION OF DUE PROCESS AND INSUFFICIENCY OF INQUIRY IN THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE DEATH OF DR DAVID KELLY

When Lord Hutton reported on 28 January 2004, many said "whitewash”. The Hutton Report was indeed a "whitewash", not so much because Lord Hutton wrongly found the BBC and not the Government responsible for Dr Kelly's "suicide" but much more importantly because Lord Hutton failed adequately to address the cause of death itself and the manner of death. The invocation by Lord Falconer, in his role as Lord Chancellor, of Section 17a of the 1988 Coroners Act to replace the statutory inquest by a non-statutory ad hoc judicial inquiry was highly irregular, as was the Coroner’s decision not to re-open the inquest following Hutton’s report. Not only did Lord Falconer, in his role as Minister for Constitutional Affairs, commission the Hutton Inquiry and determine its very narrow remit but he also decided, in his role as Lord Chancellor, that it would be an adequate replacement for a statutory inquest, when it was clearly no such thing. Given all this meddling with due process of the law it is perhaps not surprising that the death itself was not properly investigated.

Thus, not only was the form of inquiry inappropriate but the inquiry itself was clearly insufficient. There can be little doubt now that Lord Hutton presided over a blatant insufficiency of inquiry and the evidence to support that view is overwhelming. Some of that evidence, but for practical reasons not all, has been presented to Dominic Grieve QC, the present Attorney General.

Lord Hutton's finding of suicide is clearly unsafe and may, especially given the extraordinary context of Dr Kelly's death, represent one of the gravest miscarriages of justice to occur in this country. Many people in our country have known to a greater or lesser degree that that was the case but it was left to a few doctors, and latterly one journalist, to pick up the pieces of a huge jigsaw puzzle and to assemble a picture clear enough to present to the Attorney General. The doctors are requesting that an inquest be ordered through their lawyers, Frances Swaine and Merry Varney of the London law firm Leigh Day & Co. and Dr Michael Powers QC, in the form of a formal application to the Attorney General for his "fiat" to apply to the High Court to order an inquest as allowed under Section 13 of the 1988 Coroners Act.

Under Section 13 there are six reasons why the Attorney General may grant such "fiat". These are:

1) insufficiency of inquiry
2) irregularity of proceedings
3) rejection of evidence
4) new facts or evidence
5) fraud (in this context deception)
6) refusal or neglect to hold an inquest when one ought to be held

The doctors have provided abundant evidence to satisfy all six of these reasons; the Attorney General needs evidence of only one reason to grant his "fiat".

Further, the Attorney General is not required to satisfy himself that the verdict of suicide would change, only that it might change.

Accordingly, in September 2010, Leigh Day & Co. delivered a 34 page legal document called the Memorial to the Attorney General. On 28 February 2011, an Addendum to the Memorial was also provided to and at the request of the Attorney General. Both documents may be viewed in full on the BBC Online website. The doctors and Leigh Day & Co. have had sight of many other submissions to the Attorney General. It seems to the doctors and their lawyers that the case for an inquest is unanswerable.

It is surely in the public interest, and in the interests of justice, that an inquest into this death now takes place. The laws of this country, and indeed of Europe, require that the death of any British citizen dying in the manner in which Dr David Kelly is said to have died is investigated at an inquest, at which the Coroner possesses statutory powers. These include the power to hear evidence under oath, the power to subpoena witnesses, the power to have witnesses aggressively cross-examined and the power to call a jury. Lord Hutton possessed none of these powers, but the public was led to believe that Lord Hutton was better equipped to investigate Dr Kelly's death than was the Coroner. Further, Lord Hutton heard medical evidence for just one half of one day out of twenty four days of evidence, and found that Dr Kelly had committed suicide; no coroner in the land would have reached a suicide verdict on the evidence which Lord Hutton heard. The level of proof required for a coroner to reach a verdict of suicide is very high, since a suicide verdict closes the case for ever and automatically stops any murder investigation, in addition to permanently smearing the deceased (when he can no longer argue back) and his family. The Coroner is required to hear evidence which constitutes proof beyond reasonable doubt that the deceased killed himself and that he intended to kill himself, before he may return a verdict of suicide. Lord Hutton did not hear evidence which came near to satisfying that test.

We write to you asking that you endorse the request that an inquest be ordered. You will be aware that this important death, especially in the context in which it occurred, and the long subsequent fight for an inquest has been observed with mounting interest worldwide. Many will regard the response to the request for an inquest as a litmus test as to the good intentions and credibility of your government.

It is unfortunate that your government inherited this case from the preceding three governments, all of which did all they could to stop thenecessary inquest. But, now surely is the time to begin the attempt to restore the tarnished reputation of our country around the world by holding a full, frank and fearless inquest into Dr David Kelly's death, so that “the truth, pure and simple”, of what happened can finally be established “however complex, painful or unacceptable to whomsoever that truth may be” (Christopher Clarke QC, in his opening statement as Leading Counsel to the Saville “Bloody Sunday” Inquiry).

If an inquest is denied, despite all the evidence carefully provided to the Attorney General, there is a real and grave risk that your government will be seen as continuing, and being complicit in, an enormous conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Further, any “no” decision will be vigorously contested in the courts via judicial review by the doctors’ lawyers.

Finally, while the wishes of the family may be taken into account by the Coroner as to whether or not an inquest should be held, those wishes are not determinative in law. The Coroner's primary duty is to the deceased, not to the family of the deceased. Similarly, the Attorney General's primary duty, under Section 13 of the 1988 Coroners Act, is to the deceased.not to the family of the deceased. The Coroner speaks for the dead to protect the living.

This letter, addressed to you, is an open letter and it will be made available to the Press Association for onward publication.

Israel secretly supplied arms and equipment to Argentina during the Falklands War due to Prime Minister Menachem Begin's personal hatred of the British, a new book discloses.

"He [Begin] hated the English above all; everyone had forgotten the British occupation, but not him" according to Lotersztain.

His colleague Jaime Weinstein agreed, saying: "He did all that was possible to help Argentina, selling her weapons during the Malvinas [the Argentine name for the Falklands] conflict." Israel needed a third party to help with the deal so that the British would not know that it was helping Argentina and this is where Peru, despite the fact that it had tried to broker a peace plan which Argentina rejected, came in.

Fine. That's one to remember when the chips are down next time in the Middle East.

I wrote a piece last November about an incident where a group you young Muslim chaps burned poppies infront of people commemoration Remembrance Sunday............as a mark of a protest against British troops involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Well the chief burner so to speak was up in court and well guess what....The moron who burned the poppies at the Remembrance Day service gets a £50 fine and outraged a nation.

Cumberland News - A man who burned a copy of the Koran in Carlisle city centre was today jailed for 70 days.

Andrew Ryan, 32, of Summerhill, off London Road, was accompanied to Carlisle Magistrates' Court by supporters carrying a St George's Cross flag who were chanting "We love you England".

Ryan had pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and theft of the Koran holy book from Carlisle Library at an earlier hearing.

Ok it wasn't his Koran, he stole/borrowed it from the library, however that normally involves just a fine not a custodial sentence, but 70 days for outraging Muslims whilst the moron who burned a poppy and outraged the nation gets only a £50 fine?

The word disproportionate seems to apply here. After all if some idiot artist can put on display a bible to be defaced and has nothing done to them. Then this guy should surely have expected the same, save I suppose that he didn't call it art.

I suspect Andrew Ryan will end up a hero in some quarters, despite the theft, I have to admit I don't like the idea of burning books, but I can see his motives, sadly though I now know the cost of freedom of expression and that's 70 days in jail.

Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor has died from heart failure, her spokewoman has confirmed.
The British-born star had been receiving treatment for a heart condition. She was 79.

The Oscar-winner died this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, with her children at her side.

She had been taken to the hospital with congestive heart failure six weeks ago.

A spokeswoman for the hospital said: "She passed away at 1.28am (LA time) this morning."

Despite numerous health scares over a number of years the actress, who married fellow Cleopatra star Richard Burton on two occasions, continually fought back.

She remained in the public eye long after her film career was over and was a spokeswoman for humanitarian causes, most notably Aids research.

But health problems became more prominent in later life. A brain tumour, skin cancer, pneumonia and congestive heart failure were among her catalogue of ailments and she underwent three hip replacements.

"My body's a real mess," she admitted in a 2004 interview, then aged 72.

I have not blogged for a wee while.
Of late my private life has been forced to the fore and I have had a miriad of issues to deal with sadly.

But at last the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to be seen and hopefully normal service will be resumed soon.

However as the cuts from the coalition start to bite and the truth of them starts to be seen I am starting to find myself becoming angered and pained.

Indeed the deficit we currently hold thats to the financial ineptitude of Brown, Blair and Balls is IMHO worthy of a trip into court, the actions of the Coalition in certain areas is beyond belief.

I am of the opinion certain areas of the cuts are being done in order for the coalition to "suck up" to the Europhiles and indeed despite "Call me Dave's" retoric his agenda is becoming clearer.

These deep cuts in manpower go way beyond saving money. If we were that desperate – and we are – we could cut foreign aid, we could cut the EU "contribution", we could clamp down really hard on benefit tourism, and much, much more.

All that would more than make up for the cost of keeping our minimal armed forces together. What you don't do is take out irreplaceable core capabilities, not even as a very last resort.

But that isn't what it's about. We are seeing here structural cuts which remove that UK's ability to act independently as a nation, and to project our foreign policy. We have moved from independence to a transitional stage where our capabilities have been removed and there is no replacement.

This is easy to see:-

On 20 February 2009 the European Parliament voted in favour of the creation of Synchronized Armed Forces Europe (SAFE) as a first step towards a true European military force.

Basically the errosion of the UK military and the arrival of The Synchronized Armed Forces Europe (SAFE). This is a concept for an ever closer synchronization of the European forces under the Common Security and Defence Policy.

Our nation is standing blindfold at the edge of an open grave, its hands bound with a pistol at its head called European integration. Yet, even as our ruling classes seek to destroy the last vestiges British independence, the media slumbers on, never mentioning that elephant in the room.

Below is a copy of the letter of 5 November 2008 from Alex Salmond, the First Minister of Scotland to the Libyan embassy.

This letter was published eighteen months ago by the Scottish Government.

It relates to the Wikileaks news, all over today’s media, that Bill Rammell, a Foreign Office minister in the Labour Government of Gordon Brown was actively engaged in dialogue with Libya about the possible release of Megrahi, in spite of denial by the then British Labour Government.

A spokesperson for the First Minister said:

“The importance of this letter is that it shows beyond doubt that, regardless of whatever the then Foreign Office Minister Bill Rammell was communicating to the Libyan authorities, the First Minister made it absolutely clear that compassionate release could not be considered at that time because Megrahi did ‘not conform to the guidance on life expectancy for release on compassionate grounds’, and no application had been received.

It was an entirely different matter by August 2009 when the Justice Secretary took the decision, by which time Megrahi’s condition had become ‘hormone resistant’, and the report of the Scottish Prison Service Director of Health and Care said that his clinical assessment was that a three-month prognosis was a reasonable estimate, drawing on the work of a range of specialists and other Scottish Health Service professionals involved in Megrahi’s care from when he was first diagnosed with cancer in September 2008.‪‪”

The reference in the Wikileak cables that the First Minister said he would take the decision is “entirely wrong, and fourth hand information” – as we said on 7 December. This reference in the cable of 28 October is based on a conversation that the US Charge d’Affaires in London had with an FCO official who himself was reporting what he had heard about a discussion between the First Minister and Jack Straw.

What the First Minister said is that he would reply to the letter on behalf of the Scottish Government – which he did, on 5 November, rejecting consideration of compassionate release at that time.

OTHER COMMENT FROM THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT

“This leaves the former UK Labour government with all the questions to answer about its conduct.

“This diplomatic correspondence, much of which has already been made public, totally vindicates the Scottish Government’s position. We were clearly the only ones playing with a straight bat and interested in applying the precepts of Scottish justice, which we continue to do and continue to uphold.

The cables confirm what we always said – that our only interest was taking a justice decision based on Scots Law without fear or favour, which was exactly what was done, and that our public position was identical to our private one.

“The decisions to reject the PTA application and grant compassionate release were taken by the Justice Secretary, according to the precepts of Scots Law.

“The cables also show that the former UK Government were playing false on the issue, with a different public position from their private one – which must be deeply embarrassing for the Labour Party in Scotland – and that the US government was fully aware of the pressure being applied to the UK Government.”

I doubted Salmonds position on this many times.............all we need now is comms directly to Salmond from Westminster and I hope Wikileaks have them and get them out ASAP.

UK Border Agency Immigration Officer...........................With Initiative

An immigration officer was so sick of his wife that he put her on a terrorist watch list - so she couldn't get home from Pakistan.

The officer added her name to the register of people banned from flights into the UK while she was visiting family overseas, reports The Mirror.

When she went to the airport to get her return flight back, officials told her she could not board the plane and did not explain why.

She called her husband, who promised to look into it - but left her stuck in Pakistan for three years while he had the "time of his life".

An immigration source said: "A lot of people may dislike their other halves but to do this takes it to the next level.

"Needless to say she was confused when she got to the airport as she had never been involved in anything criminal or terrorist related.

"She obviously thought her husband, being an immigration officer, would be able to find out what was going on.

"Little did she know it was him who had put her on the list. By all accounts he then had the time of his life."

The officer was caught out when bosses vetted him after he went for a promotion that required him to have a higher level of security clearance.

They realised his wife was on the watch list and asked him for an explanation.

He had no choice but to confess what he had done - and was fired.

Farting is set to be made a crime in Malawi.

The government plan to punish persistent offenders 'who foul the air' in a bid to 'mould responsible and disciplined citizens.'
But locals fear that pinning responsibility on the crime will be difficult - and may lead to miscarriages of justice as 'criminals' attempt to blame others for their offence.

One Malawian told the website Africanews.com: 'My goodness. What happens in a public place where a group is gathered. Do they lock up half a minibus?
'And how about at meetings where it is difficult to pinpoint 'culprits'?

'Children will openly deny having passed bad air and point at an elder. Culturally, this is very embarrassing,' she said.

Another said: 'We have serious issues affecting Malawians today. I do not know how fouling the air should take priority over regulating Chinese investments which do not employ locals, serious graft amongst legislators, especially those in the ruling party, and many more.'

The crime will be enforceable in a new 'Local Court' system which will also have powers to punish a range of other crimes in the bill set to be debated in the country's parliament.

These include insulting the modesty of a woman, challenging to fight a duel, and trespassing on a burial place.

It also outlaws pretending to be a fortune teller, according to local press in the country.

According to Ansa, Ms Berardi attended a party at Porto Rotondo, in Sardinia, on 21 November 2009 - just a few days before her 18th birthday. She also attended a party at his villa at Arcore, near Milan, in December the same year.

Ten days ago, prosecutors submitted a 389-page document, in which they said they had proof of payments made by the billionaire leader to prostitutes. The latest document runs to 227 pages.

The embattled 74-year-old has refused to attend questioning on the matter and has vowed to punish the magistrates who, he insists, are pursuing a political vendetta against him.

Born in Alloway, Ayrshire, in 1759 to William Burness, a poor tenant farmer, and Agnes Broun, Robert Burns was the eldest of seven. He spent his youth working his father's farm, but in spite of his poverty he was extremely well read - at the insistence of his father, who employed a tutor for Robert and younger brother Gilbert. At 15 Robert was the principal worker on the farm and this prompted him to start writing in an attempt to find "some kind of counterpoise for his circumstances." It was at this tender age that Burns penned his first verse, "My Handsome Nell", which was an ode to the other subjects that dominated his life, namely scotch and women.

When his father died in 1784, Robert and his brother became partners in the farm. However, Robert was more interested in the romantic nature of poetry than the arduous graft of ploughing and, having had some misadventures with the ladies (resulting in several illegitimate children, including twins to the woman who would become his wife, Jean Armour), he planned to escape to the safer, sunnier climes of the West Indies.

However, at the point of abandoning farming, his first collection "Poems- Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect - Kilmarnock Edition" (a set of poems essentially based on a broken love affair), was published and received much critical acclaim. This, together with pride of parenthood, made him stay in Scotland. He moved around the country, eventually arriving in Edinburgh, where he mingled in the illustrious circles of the artists and writers who were agog at the "Ploughman Poet."

In a matter of weeks he was transformed from local hero to a national celebrity, fussed over by the Edinburgh literati of the day, and Jean Armour's father allowed her to marry him, now that he was no longer a lowly wordsmith. Alas, the trappings of fame did not bring fortune and he took up a job as an exciseman to supplement the meagre income. Whilst collecting taxes he continued to write, contributing songs to the likes of James Johnston's "Scot's Musical Museum" and George Thomson's "Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs." In all, more than 400 of Burns' songs are still in existence.

The last years of Burns' life were devoted to penning great poetic masterpieces such as The Lea Rig, Tam O'Shanter and a Red, Red Rose. He died aged 37 of heart disease exacerbated by the hard manual work he undertook when he was young. His death occurred on the same day as his wife Jean gave birth to his last son, Maxwell.

On the day of his burial more than 10,000 people came to watch and pay their respects. However, his popularity then was nothing compared to the heights it has reached since.

On the anniversary of his birth, Scots both at home and abroad celebrate Robert Burns with a supper, where they address the haggis, the ladies and whisky. A celebration which would undoubtedly make him proud.

A college student claims he was traumatized by a underwhelming session with a Las Vegas prostitute — and now he’s suing her escort service for distress caused by the "tragic event."

Hubert Blackman of New York would like his $275 payment to Las Vegas Exclusive Personals back, according to court documents, as well as a $1.8 million verdict.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Blackman was vacationing in Vegas in December when he ordered a stripper to come to his hotel room. There, the stripper performed a $155 lap dance and a $120 sex act. But then things took a turn for the bizarre.

He was reeling from the arrival of Ed Milliband into the top chair of the champagne socialists club.

Then he saw his much coveted position of Shadow Chancellor go to Alan Johnson.

Then what emerges yesterday is this..............that Alan Johnson quit frontline politics after discovering his wife had had an affair with his police protection officer.

Now Alan had a feeling this was going on.............this was not a shock. Indeed rumours around Westminster had it going on............what was certain though was that the public did not know it and that it would inevitably destroy Alan.

Hours after the shock resignation, Scotland Yard launched disciplinary proceedings against Paul Rice, who had guarded Mr Johnson from potential terror attacks when he was Home Secretary.

The experienced detective constable, who has been protecting the current Home Secretary Theresa May, is expected to be suspended from duty within 24 hours.

Mr Johnson wed his second wife Laura, 47, in August 1991 and they have a ten-year-old son. But last night it was reported that the marriage was over.

Government sources said the Home Office had been made aware of the affair. Mr Johnson abruptly announced yesterday that he was facing ‘personal issues in my private life’ and could no longer cope with his high-profile role

A pair of "nice guys" have won a court battle because they are gay!

Well no not really.
Well yes really !!

Basically the owners of a hotel who refused to allow a gay couple a double room acted unlawfully, a judge has ruled.

Peter and Hazelmary Bull, of the Chymorvah Hotel, near Penzance, said as Christians they did not believe unmarried couples should share a room.

Martyn Hall and his civil partner Steven Preddy, from Bristol, said the incident in September 2008 was "direct discrimination" against them.

They were awarded £1,800 each in damages at Bristol County Court.

"When we booked to stay at the Chymorvah Hotel this was not, as some have suggested, a set up sponsored by a pressure group, we just wanted a relaxing weekend away - something thousands of other couples in Britain do every weekend," Mr Preddy said.

"Because we wanted to bring our new dog we checked he would be welcome. It didn't even cross our minds that in 2008 in Britain we needed to ask if we would be.

He said that the judgement showed that civil partnerships were legally the same as marriages.

Hazelmary Bull said the double bed policy was based on "sincere beliefs"

"Judge Rutherford has found that our treatment was an act of direct discrimination and therefore a breach of the law," he added.

Scotland to gift two ‘NEDS’ to China in return for pandas

Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond today signed an historic agreement to send two giant Scottish neds (non-educated delinquents, indigenous to shopping centres across the nation) to the People’s Republic of China. The gesture from the Scottish government is said to be a demonstration of the gratitude of the nation for the loan of two pandas to Edinburgh Zoo, and will see these two particular Scottish neds leave the country for the first time since an infamous trip to Ibiza in 2001.

The pair, named Shuggie and Senga, are breeding neds who are expected to produce a near endless litter of cubs or ‘weans’. Traditionally, the only neds conceived or born overseas have been in Spain, but Grant McDougall, Professor of Ned Studies at the University of Dundee, explained: ‘Neds actually breed very easily in captivity, which is why they are rarely allowed to share a cell.’

Alcohol Price and Binge Drinking

Shops and bars will be prevented from selling drinks for less than the tax they pay on them.

The minimum pricing would work out at 38p for a can of weak lager and £10.71 for a litre bottle of vodka.

Health campaigners say that is too low to have an impact but the drinks industry described the proposals as a "pragmatic solution".

In their coalition agreement, the Conservatives and Lib Dems pledged: "We will ban the sale of alcohol below cost price."

But under government proposals "below cost price" is defined as the tax drinkers' pay - duty plus VAT - rather than including the cost of producing the drinks.

It is understood defining cost price as anything other than duty plus VAT could have created legal difficulties.

Asked about the proposals for England and Wales, Professor Ian Gilmore, of the Royal College of Physicians, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "It's a step in the right direction but I have to say, it's an extremely small step. It will have no impact whatsoever on the vast majority of cheap drinks sold in supermarkets."

So the Professor thinks it is a waste of time. I happen to agree with him.
If people want to drink they will drink................prohibition always works does it not!!!
They will find the money somewhere............after all the high price of heroin has virtually stamped out the illegal drugs trade............pah!

Maybe it'd a double edge sword. People are skint,(yesterday at 17.15 we rolled over a trillion quid of debt, well the declared debt.......not the true figure), country on its arse, MP's and Lords still stealing via expences, costs through the roof, tax burden increasing and the only escape people have a wee snifter at the end of the day.

Last year, the Scottish Parliament rejected plans for a minimum price per unit of alcohol of 45p, after opposition MSPs said the move would penalise responsible drinkers and could be illegal under European competition law.

I do hope an English or Welsh chap does have a go under Euro Law about this............the outcome would be fun to watch.

I also suspect the green hippy lobby are watching and seeing if this works. After all it would be a fine way to further penalise the motorist by saying increase fuel costs further (Jeez No) and that would reduce car usage.

Well we are at approx £1.36 per litre of the diesel type stuff and await the onset of the £7.00 gallon...................I do not see people using cars less..........Oh no!!!

Blue Monday

It is today Monday 17th January 2011

The original date of "Blue Monday" was actually mathematically calculated in 2005 by Dr. Cliff Arnall a researcher at Cardiff University.

Mr. Arnall created his formula for the most depressing day of the year by working six distinct factors into the equation: weather conditions (Gloomy old January and its typical lack of sunshine), debt level and our ability to pay that debt, time elapsed since Christmas, time elapsed since failing our New Years resolutions, our general seasonal motivational levels, and our need to take action and to have something to look forward to( During January, and depending on where you reside, there are no statutory holidays in the fore-see-able future. Gasp!).

US Party Politics And The Arizona Shootings

The shootings in Tucson, Arizona have sparked a fierce debate about whether inflammatory right-wing rhetoric was somehow a party to the murders.

Six people died, 1 of which was a 9 year old girl, and 20 were injured, including Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head.

Within hours the local country sheriff, Clarence Dupnik, who happens to be a member of the Democratic Party, held a press conference in which he went out of his way to link the murders with political rhetoric.

This has led to a wave of soul searching in the American media and online.

Most criticism has been directed by the left of centre against the Republican right and in particular Sarah Palin and the Tea Party.

The evidence that they have created a "climate of hate" includes Mrs Palin's online campaign map from last year using crosshairs over the Democratic-held congressional seats.

She has also used the phrase "don't retreat - reload".

One typical comment on Mrs Palin's Facebook page read: "You cannot flippantly talk about 'reloading' and putting people on your TARGET list and not expect some nut to take you literally."

It is true that language and symbolism in American political debate is more emotional and violent than in many democracies - but missing from the debate appears to be a sense that it has always been this way and that America has always been a country where the gun has played a role.

The founding fathers called each other "traitors" in print, there have been 20 attempted presidential assassinations, four of which were successful.

JFK, Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy died in the blood-soaked, rhetoric-fuelled, 1960s in which one of the most memorable political slogans came from the Black Panthers: "By Any Means Necessary."

In 2004 the Democrats used a map of the US under the headline "Targeting" and bullseyes over states they were concentrating on - the blurb talked about operating "behind enemy lines".

This may have been less overtly violent than Mrs Palin's crosshairs but is in the same vein, as is Barack Obama's "if they bring a knife we'll bring a gun" speech in 2008.

Sheriff Dupnik introduced the rhetoric idea into the news story at an early stage.

Immediately it gave the media and public a different angle to the usual gun control/loner/drugs narrative which arises after similar events.

A link to political rhetoric cannot be ruled out in the Arizona tragedy - and there is a genuine debate to be had about the relationship between language and violence in the media.

But there appears to have been a rush to judgement that there is something special about this event.

Politics in America has always used the language of the gun, and the gun has always been used in America.

My Opinion............

Jared Loughner.............although I hasten to add not yet convicted, but who is the main suspect as the shooter (must be careful in law here)..........was a looney with a gun.

He was un-hinged.............twisted and indeed in strong need of medical and mental help.

A simple read through this piece will give an idea of the individual at the centre of this.

He slipped through the net.............reading the above piece will show that many suspected but nobody did anything about it.

This was a tragedy waiting to happen..............and sadly it just has.

The blame of Sarah Palin is wrong................trust me I think the woman is a political joke.
Her day time TV program / fly on the wall documentary is just that...........A JOKE.

Her choice of language and the use of the cross hairs may well have been inappropriate with hindsight, but has been a ploy used in US politics for many many years..........and is part of the US psyche.

That did not make Jared Loughner pull the trigger..............he did that all by himself.

I will make an inflammatory statement here.............

Hungerford and Dunblane where horrific gun crimes here in the UK. After both incidents there was a huge overhaul of fiearms laws.

Many gun clubs went to the wall. Many sporting and target shooters gave up the sport.

However none of the legislation passed stopped the Cumbria incident or more recently Raul Moat.

Again un-hinged people who pulled the trigger themselves.

Ousted Northern Ireland Water boss Laurence MacKenzie is a convicted embezzler, it has been revealed.
He swindled his church in the Scottish Highlands out of £2,000 almost 30 years ago.

MacKenzie, 49, lost his £250,000-a-year job as head of the state-owned water company in the aftermath of the leaks fiasco which left tens of thousands of homes in Northern Ireland without water over Christmas and the New Year.

He stole the money from West Kirk church in Thurso, Caithness, while he was working for the Bank of Scotland as a junior teller.

A spokesman for the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh said: "We can confirm that, following an investigation, Mr MacKenzie was convicted and removed from his post as treasurer in 1982."

He was convicted of embezzling £2,000 by a court. He was not sent to prison.

MacKenzie became chief executive of Northern Ireland Water (NIW) in June 2009 after several years heading Northern Ireland Electricity.

A spokesman for NIW said: "We are making no comment."

Kerry McCarthy MP

Old news now but the fact she has once again shown her colours of raging stupidity by stating that all men in the Greater Bristol Area should be DNA tested to assist in the hunt for Joanna Yeates killer.

Now....a hideous crime and I for 1 hope the boys in blue catch whoever did this and they face the full weight of the law.

You may say .......Ah!!! but the DNA testing will assist.

OK lets look at that further shall we............or in this case Al Jahom has written a top piece and I quote.

If a man were to refuse to submit to DNA testing, does McCarthy think he should be arrested, and if so, on what charge?

On what basis can McCarthy assume that no woman was involved in this crime, which she must since she only wants men to be DNA tested?

Why so certain that the culprit(s) live in the Bristol area?

And now, let’s consider the likely costs and logistics of such a scheme.

250,000 men to be DNA tested.
I’m going to take a blind guess at the cost of £600 per test, based on the cost of the lab work, as well as police time, administration etc.
(I have to assume significant police time would be involved in collecting and processing samples, due to the requirements of the rules of evidence, in the event of any prosecution based on a DNA match.)

So, the cost then. 250,000 x £600. That’s £150 MILLION. A snip, I think you’ll agree.

But how long would this ambitious endeavour take?

Not an easy question to answer, but consider the bottlenecks:

Locations for collecting samples.
Space to properly store samples.
Police officers available for collection and processing work.
Capacity of laboratories to work accurately and consistently on the samples.
This last one is a particularly interesting one, since it’s been shown that different labs can easily return different results based on samples of the same DNA, that there are flaws in the process, and miscarriages of justice as a result, that the human element always introduces some degree of error, and that there are intrinsic statistical reasons why accuracy of testing will diminish across a larger sample group.

From 250,000 men, the police could still end up with a shortlist of thousands.

So how long would it all take? 1 year? 5 years? Well… finger in the air again:

240 working days a year. 1000 samples processed a day. 250 days – just over a year.
But…1000 samples a day? Hardly possible, is it? To collect that many, let alone process them, is absurd.
So lets say 200 samples a day. That means the process could take over 5 years.
Will the police sit on their hands, waiting for a 5 year process to come up with a shortlist of (say) 2,500 men?

I think not.

So, in conclusion, can we agree that Kerry McCarthy is a fucking idiot?

This is REALLY HAPPENING!

Tell your friends over the last month I became a victim of a clever 'Eastern European' scam while out shopping.

Simply dropping into Asda for a bit of shopping has turned out to be quite traumatic.

Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works:

Two seriously hot-looking, young ladies with foreign accents come over to your car and help pack your shopping into the boot, both in skimpy clothing.

It's impossible not to look!!! When you thank them and offer them a tip, they'll say 'No' and instead ask you for a lift to another shop, in my case, Tesco.

You agree and they both get in the backseat. On the way, they start undressing, and both get completely naked. Then, when you pull over to remonstrate, one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts kissing you, touching you intimately, and thrusting herself against you, while the other one steals your wallet, credit cards, mobile phone etc!

I had mine stolen Nov 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th, and 29th. Also Dec 1st, 4th, twice on the 6th, three times last Saturday and very likely again this coming weekend.

So Be Warned!!!

David Chaytor MP..................well ex-MP

And confessed MP Expense stealing thief.

Chaytor, 61, the former MP for Bury North, last month admitted three charges of false accounting.

He made claims for IT consultancy work he was never charged for and renting two homes which, it turned out, were owned by him and his mother.

The maximum sentence is seven years in jail but his guilty plea is likely to be taken into account.

He had been due to be the first MP to stand trial over expenses but changed his plea days beforehand. The judge at Southwark Crown Court is expected to hand down his sentence in the next hour.

Prosecutors say Chaytor deliberately tried to "siphon off" public money he was not entitled to by providing false documents to back up claims for rent which he never paid.

To the tune of £20,000.

Well today at 1415 sentence was passed at the High Court.

18 Months in the clink.
Thank god for that.

Pantomine Madness............The Geneva Convention

A Glasgow theatre has had to change a pantomime costume after being told it was breaking the Geneva Convention.

The dress worn by Nurse Poltis in the Pavilion Theatre production of Robin Hood originally had red crosses on the hat and tunic.

These were changed to green crosses after the British Red Cross informed the theatre it was breaking the law and could face prosecution.

Unauthorised use of the emblem violates the Geneva Conventions Act 1957.

Oh my bloody good god!

The British Red Cross said it had contacted the Pavilion Theatre over the use of a red cross on a nurse's costume in the pantomime, The Magical Adventures of Robin Hood.

A spokesman for the humanitarian organisation said: "We have no desire to be the villains of the pantomime or to appear heavy handed, but we do have a very serious obligation to protect the Red Cross emblem.

"The emblem is a special sign of neutrality and protection recognised by all sides during armed conflicts.

"Misuse of that emblem - even when done in an innocent and light-hearted manner - has to be addressed. Repeated and widespread misuse of the Red Cross emblem could dilute its neutrality and its ability to protect.

"When we contacted the theatre management, they quickly changed the cross on the nurse's costume to green and we applaud them for that."

Of all thats going on in the World this is surely a sign that the place is Mental.

Labour leader Ed Miliband has accused the Coalition of spreading the "myth" that Britain's debts were caused by the last Government spending too much rather than a global financial crisis.

In an article in The Times, Mr Miliband said Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne were leading the country in the wrong direction.

He said their "politically motivated desire to propagate a myth about the last Labour government" was being used to justify cutting too deep and too fast.

Mr Miliband said the pair were "airbrushing" history and ignoring the fact Britain's debt at the start of the crisis was the second-lowest in the G7 and lower than it had been under the Conservatives.

He warned a "great deceit designed to damage Labour has led to profoundly misguided and dangerous economic decisions that I fear will cause deep damage to Britain's future".

Scotland And Independence

Firstly Happy New Year.

I am pleased though that the festivities are now done and dusted.

It seemed to go on a bit more this year for some reason.

Anyway into 2011 we go.

I am a freeman.
I have signed the affidavits and registered them.
They have been sent to those that need to see them
They are available for others as required.

I am a proud Scot.
I have recently fallen foul of the SNP cyber Nats..........that was done in an earlier post.

However the reason for this post is I wish to direct you to this post here by the Captain.You see the question of Scotland breaking away from the union has been around for many a year.

I feel the post by the Captain is indeed well written and a great piece. No not necessarily for the Captains thoughts but also for some of the 43 or so comments made on it.

Indeed the KBW make some stunning points.

This is a tricky subject............I have my opinion and I have been chastised for it in the past. I have worn both the bad of my country on my uniform as part of my regiment but also fought under the banner of the union.........does that make me a hypocrit????????

Just go read it and the comments and see where you sit on the subject.

I am certainly looking forward to the Holyrood elections in about 5 months time. I await this sleeping beast of a subject to be rudely awakened.
